Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English) Location: Romford, London Contract Type: Temporary, Flexible, Part-Time Start Date: ASAP Pay Rate: Starting from £25/hour (based on experience and qualifications) About the Role As a Functional Skills Tutor, you will work with learners in one-to-one or small group settings, designing personalised lesson plans that address individual learning needs. Your innovative teaching methods will help students overcome challenges, build confidence, and gain the essential skills they need for academic and everyday success. You will work closely with students with SEMH needs, ensuring lessons are both engaging and accessible. Key Responsibilities Deliver one-to-one or small group tuition in Maths and/or English Functional Skills (Levels 1 & 2). Develop and implement customised lesson plans that cater to individual learning requirements. Adapt teaching strategies to support students, particularly those with SEMH needs. Monitor student progress and provide constructive, regular feedback. Create a supportive, inclusive learning environment that encourages student success. Requirements Functional Skills qualifications in Maths or English. Minimum 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience in Functional Skills. Demonstrated experience working with SEMH learners. Right to work in the UK. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undertake one). Desired Qualifications A teaching qualification such as PGCE in Maths or English and/or QTS is highly desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A genuine passion for helping learners overcome challenges and develop essential skills.
