As a Legal Assistant, you will be providing claims support which will include conducting legal research, analysis, and drafting across a broad range of shipping law and insurance matters. You will be part of a small but perfectly formed Legal Support Team and work closely with our lawyers and claims handlers.
Whatever your legal background, you will have a training plan to develop your skills and knowledge across P&I, FD&D, and Specialty insurance.
What will you be doing?
Key responsibilities will include:
* Assisting in the administration and conduct of claims with appropriate guidance and support from those requiring assistance.
* Providing discrete task assistance (legal, procedural, and administrative) across a high number of claims primarily involving FD&D matters including, but not limited to, drafting internal case summaries and reports, assisting with costs management and recovery, completing standard legal procedures and tasks on files, assisting in the conduct of London arbitration proceedings, and as appropriate instructing external lawyers, surveyors, correspondents, or experts both in the UK and abroad.
* Assisting with discrete research tasks, legal and claims-related data collection, analysis, and management systems.
* Drafting documents and pleadings as may be appropriate and required.
* Adding additional capacity and support to solicitors/claims handlers across the business, as required and agreed by your line manager.
* Completing a structured development programme across Specialty, FD&D, and P&I.
About you
Skills/Qualifications/Experience
* A Law Degree and/or a recognised Legal Qualification.
* IT literate, with a working knowledge of MS Office Packages.
* Administration skills and attention to detail.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Collaboration and the ability to work as part of a team.
* Planning and organisational skills.
* Proactive and able to work on own initiative.
* Knowledge of shipping law and/or the shipping industry.
* Experience of paralegal work or similar in a law firm/other claims handling organisation.
