The Director of Engineering is responsible for the safe design of quality equipment on time and on budget for significant and complex client projects. This includes the development of design/product standards as well as delivering custom-engineered integrated systems to meet both end-user and engineering client demands.
The role is supremely focused on technical analysis, design, and guidance for the department, promoting a culture of lean through shared learning and transparency.
The position focuses on coaching, training, and developing the engineering team from a technical standpoint. This role will also be responsible for documenting processes, solving challenging issues, and most importantly, memorizing lessons learned.
Your Responsibilities Will Be:
1. Build and lead a responsive engineering team to work with internal and external customers from the time of receipt of customer order through delivery of equipment and final commissioning.
2. Build a whole-team oriented culture of excellence leveraging shared learnings, transparency, and success recognition throughout the business.
3. Develop and deploy equipment, component, and design standards grounded in customer expectations and best practices.
4. Provide continual improvement to current equipment, including water heaters and heat recovery equipment, as well as wastewater equipment, design standards, manuals, and engineering procedures, and evaluate new wastewater treatment technologies, design, and process.
5. Construct the company’s technology roadmap and implement a plan to realize it.
6. Support field inquiries on technical and operational concerns.
7. Develop and utilize the team to build efficient business systems and processes to deliver equipment without waste and utilize appropriate KPIs to measure success.
8. Drive lean training and implement a lean toolkit utilizing PDCA, value stream mapping, kaizen, standard work, problem-solving, and 5S throughout the business.
9. Manage assigned employees, plan and coordinate team activity/workload, monitor employee performance, provide feedback, and complete performance reviews.
10. Encourage growth, development, and training of staff; interview, hire and train new employees; develop and maintain positive employee and inter-department relations.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
2. 10+ years of experience leading Engineering team(s).
3. Mastery of the principles of heat transfer, combustion, and wastewater treatment.
4. Working knowledge of process equipment instrumentation and controls.
5. A minimum of ten years’ experience in progressive engineering roles with at least three years in an engineered-to-order environment.
6. At least five years of leading a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
7. Excellent verbal/written skills.
8. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in engineering or science.
2. Six Sigma and Lean experience.
3. Project management experience.
4. PE or other certifications.
5. Knowledge of ASME, AWS, UL, NSF, NEC, NFPA, IEC.
Travel Requirements:
Travel is required, as necessary; must have the ability to travel across borders.

Positions in this function typically require typing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Concentrated mental and/or visual attention is required. The work involves performing complex tasks to very close accuracy and quality specifications, or a high degree of hand and eye coordination for sustained periods.
The job is typically performed under comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of the job. Visits to our manufacturing facility and suppliers’ facilities are required to monitor active projects and address design issues.
