We’re looking for a skilled and motivated software engineer with a UK government client in the national security sector. They are looking for SW engineers with a solid foundation in backend development and a keen interest in working with large-scale data systems. The role will involve working with containerized microservices, cloud-native infrastructure, and graph or big data technologies, with some exposure to frontend development as needed.
These are the core technologies and knowledge areas we expect you to be comfortable with from the outset:
1. Java: Strong programming skills and experience building robust, maintainable applications.
2. Docker: Experience creating and managing containerized applications.
3. Kubernetes/OpenShift: Practical knowledge of deploying and managing applications in a container orchestration environment.
4. Red Hat Linux / Linux-based systems: Confident working in Linux environments, including scripting and basic system administration.
5. Big Data / Graph Databases: Familiarity with large-scale data systems, particularly graph-based models or distributed data processing.
These are not required upfront but would be beneficial, and can be picked up on the job:
1. Hadoop: Experience with the Hadoop ecosystem, including HDFS and MapReduce.
2. Accumulo: Understanding of or experience with Accumulo for secure, scalable data storage.
3. Gaffer: Knowledge of Gaffer or similar graph frameworks for data analysis.
4. React / JavaScript: While this is primarily a backend/data engineering role, there is occasional frontend work involved. Experience with React and JavaScript is useful, but not a focus of the role.
Due to the sensitive nature of the work, applicants must currently hold DV clearance at the UKIC level. This is the highest level of UK Government national security vetting, specifically tailored for work within the UK Intelligence Community.
