Role: Early Years SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Plymouth Contract: Full time, term time only Salary: Starting at £14.45 per hour Are you passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of young learners with special educational needs ? We are recruiting on behalf of a dedicated SEN primary school that specialises in supporting students with moderate learning difficulties, SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) challenges and other complex needs. This vibrant school is searching for a committed teaching assistant to join their supportive team, focusing on students primarily in the early years and primary stages. Ideal candidates will bring experience from early years or nursery settings, as many of the students in the school are pre-verbal or non-verbal. Familiarity with makaton or other alternative communication methods would be highly beneficial. In this role, you will: Support students to help them thrive in a learning environment designed to meet their specific needs Assist in implementing tailored learning activities, with a focus on sensory and interactive methods that engage young learners Help facilitate communication for pre-verbal and non-verbal students, using Makaton or other visual aids that engage young learners Work closely with the class teacher and therapy specialists to adapt learning materials and manage classroom routines Encourage positive behaviours and emotional regulation in a nurturing, patient manner that builds confidence and self-expression The ideal candidate: Experience working in early years, nursery or a similar setting with young children Patience, resilience and empathy to support students facing a range of learning and social challenges Familiarity with Makaton or a willingness to learn it to enhance communication with children A genuine passion for SEN education and the ability to work as part of a close, collaborative team This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is enthusiastic about helping young children reach their full potential in a caring, structured environment.
