An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Development Management Team at Southend as a Planning Enforcement Officer on a full-time permanent basis. You will be joining a highly performing Planning Service with a strong track record of delivering high profile projects. This role is being offered on the current hybrid basis which is a combination of working from home and attending the office at least two days per week, although physical presence on site visits on most days is required. As a planning enforcement officer, you will contribute to the efficient and effective operation of the Development Management Team. You will respond to and investigate planning enforcement enquiries from the general public and other stakeholders. This will require the carrying out of site visits, providing guidance to interested parties and negotiating resolutions. To be successful in this role, you will need to have good attention to detail and excellent organisational and communication skills. You need to be able to work on your own initiative and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages. You will engage effectively across all levels and be able to work to deadlines, carrying out your duties accurately at speed, establishing good relationships with customers and other stakeholders. This role will suit an individual who has a can-do attitude, is keen to learn and is seeking a career in local government planning. Knowledge of planning system, legislation and procedures are desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided. This role would suit graduates from a wide range of subjects, particularly individuals with a genuine interest in areas such as the built environment, planning, sustainability, the law and local government. It would also be suitable for persons with significant previous experience in regulatory or enforcement functions.
