Classroom Support Assistant for SEN & Autism

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Classroom Support Assistant to work full-time with a young student at our SEN secondary school in Salford. The student has autism and moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and requires consistent support to engage in their learning and develop social and life skills.
The ideal candidate will be a patient and positive role model, providing tailored support to help the student with behavioural, communication, and academic needs, while fostering an inclusive and encouraging environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 support to a student with autism and MLD, helping them engage in classwork and school activities.
* Assist the student in developing communication, social interaction, and independence skills.
* Work alongside teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to implement the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and behaviour support plans.
* Support the student with their focus and learning tasks, adapting materials as needed to suit their learning style.
* Create a structured and calm environment to help the student feel secure and engaged in their learning.
* Manage any challenging behaviour in a supportive and proactive manner, using positive reinforcement techniques.
* Provide support with life skills, including any personal care needs, fostering independence wherever possible.
Key Requirements:
* Previous experience supporting young people with SEN, particularly autism and/or moderate learning difficulties (MLD), in an educational setting desirable.
* A patient, calm, and empathetic approach, with an ability to build trust and rapport with the student.
* Strong communication skills, both with the student and when working collaboratively with staff, parents, and external professionals.
* An understanding of autism and strategies to support sensory, communication, and behavioural needs.
* Ability to adapt learning materials and teaching strategies to meet the needs of students with MLD.
* Experience in an SEN or specialist setting is desirable but not essential.
* Relevant qualifications such as a Teaching Assistant qualification, CACHE Level 2/3, or experience in support work with children with SEN is preferred.
