The Role
The Scientist/Senior Scientist will be laboratory based and will have a key role in Alchemab's antibody and target discovery. Through the application of phage display, cell-based assays and cell line generation they will derive novel therapeutic antibody candidates using Alchemab's unique platform technology.
They will work closely with the scientific team beginning with patient-derived phage library construction and QC, through to performing phage display selections and screening phage outputs for function. Their role will also involve tissue culture, generation of overexpressing cell lines and testing the discovery antibodies in cell-based assays. There will be scope to explore platform development involving application of Next Generation Sequencing, whole cell phage display selections, and functional cell-based assays.
Responsibilities
* Perform all aspects of the phage display discovery process, including contribution to library design and construction, independent phage display selections planning, execution and analysis of results.
* Contribute to generation of overexpressing cell lines and maintaining generated cell lines.
* Perform and analyse cell-based assays.
* Perform antibody validation by flow cytometry on cell lines.
* Work collaboratively within Alchemab and with external groups and service providers.
* Maintain up to date knowledge in relevant areas of research.
* Communicate efficiently, interpret and summarise data for presentation to different audiences.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic laboratory notebook records.
* Maintain assigned laboratory equipment and/or duties.
* Perform all work demonstrating due care and attention to all health and safety and COSHH regulations, and Human Tissue Act records where required.
Essential
* Expertise in molecular biology including cloning, PCR and sanger sequence analysis.
* Good cell culture expertise including flow cytometry and cell-based assays.
* A strong attention to detail and an ability to generate reproducible data.
* An ability to work independently, developing, running and trouble-shooting new scientific techniques and experimental protocols.
* An adaptable individual who is able to manage changing research priorities and a willingness to embrace innovation and explore new ideas and approaches.
* An ambition to work with the Alchemab team to build a transformative company, with a desire to share knowledge, resources and ideas to foster a collaborative environment.
* A cross functional team player who proactively and directly communicates and collaborates with others both inside and out of immediate team.
* A critical thinker who uses logical reasoning to adapt approaches based on evidence and feedback.
Desirable
* Theoretical and practical expertise in phage display technologies and selection techniques.
* Experience in next generation sequencing including library generation.
* Experience in cell line generation, design of constructs and lenti-virus transduction.
* Experience with cell assay development.
* Experience in an industrial drug discovery environment.
* Background knowledge in Oncology or Neurology fields.
Qualifications
* A PhD or MSc (with equivalent lab experience) in a relevant scientific discipline (or industry equivalent).
