Job Description
3 months contract with local authorities
1. To deputise for the Development Control Team Leader in his/her absence as required by the Development Manager.
2. To personally handle a varied caseload including the more complex and major development applications and appeals, preparing reports which are clear, accurate and technically correct.
3. To ensure planning applications and appeals are determined in accordance with service and business plan targets – and are in accordance with relevant planning guidance and legislation.
4. To prepare reports and make recommendations to Council Committees and on matters to be decided under delegated powers – including presenting reports as appropriate.
5. To prepare and present evidence at appeals/public inquiries as required.
6. To keep abreast of, and advise others in the Section on, changing legislation, circulars and good planning practice relating to development control and to ensure continued personal and professional development to meeting changing demands on the service.
7. To assist and support the Technical Assistants as necessary in order to enable the team to meet service and business plan targets. To give training and support to team members as required by the Development Control Team Leader/Development Manager.
8. To respond to enquiries and complaints as required under the guidance of the Development Control Team Leader.
9. To represent the Service at meetings with other Council Services and outside bodies/organisations always demonstrating high standards of customer care.
10. To carry out such other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time.
11. To support and assist with Council/corporate work on various initiatives including work on the Local Plan as necessary.
12. Must demonstrate a keen commitment to customer care, displaying flexibility in approach to work to achieve service and corporate priorities.
13. Calculation of fees and charges for planning applications/work as necessary.
14. Validation of planning applications as necessary.
