Starting salary between £35790 and £43543 per annum

Post 2 – 12-month temporary contract (secondment cover)
Based at King’s Court Council Offices, King’s Lynn
If you would like to make a difference in the community by helping people who are private sector tenants or social housing tenants with things like getting repairs done and making sure that their landlords deal with housing defects (hazards) properly, then we have two opportunities for you to join our Housing Standards team.
We need you to line manage Housing Standards Officers to ensure that housing enforcement activities are carried out correctly and efficiently. You will effectively manage your own case work and support the team’s cases ensuring they are conducted according to legislation, policies and procedures in a timely and efficient manner.
You will also effectively deal with the licensing of HMO’s and residential caravan sites and contribute to the development of policies and procedures for these and all other housing enforcement activities.
You will be qualified to degree level in a relevant subject with experience of inspection and enforcement for housing standards including formal procedures such as PACE and RIPA. You will have a working knowledge of housing legislation and current best practice, with knowledge of housing defects and their implications for the health and safety of the occupants.
You will be able to effectively supervise officers supporting where needed with casework as well as managing your own cases, prioritising workload and service requests. You will have excellent communication skills including the ability to write concise reports, and the ability to negotiate effectively.
This appointment will be made subject to a satisfactory enhanced criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service.
