Do you want to use your skills to make it possible for people with myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, to live longer and better lives?
Myeloma UK is looking for a motivated and highly pro-active Trusts and Grants Officer to join our Philanthropy team within the wider Fundraising directorate. We welcome applications from people with prior experience or transferable skills who want to explore trusts and grants fundraising and/or fundraising within the health sector. The successful candidate will have a passion for writing, excellent organisational, presentation, communication, and record-keeping skills, with an ability to understand and interpret financial data. The postholder will need to be self-motivated and a team player, with flexibility and a willingness to develop and expand the role. In this exciting position, you’ll have the opportunity to draft compelling proposals, identify and cultivate relationships with grant-making organisations, and secure gifts ranging from £100 to £10,000.
Experience of fundraising from charitable trusts and foundations, building project budgets, and the use of the Raisers Edge CRM system as well as knowledge of prospective funders within the trust and foundation and corporate sectors would be advantageous, but not essential.
About the role
Myeloma UK has an ambitious plan for income growth. We launched a new organisational strategy in 2024 and will launch our new research strategy in mid-2025. We’re making amazing progress in the research and treatment of myeloma – but we need to go further, faster. This position will play a critical role in securing grants of up to £10K from trusts, foundations, and grant funders for a range of innovative and life-changing programmes – including patient and family support, research, and advocacy. The role will work closely with the Senior Trusts and Grants Officer, who leads on the medium and large grants programme, and income from pharmaceutical partners.
The post holder will deliver the grant process from start-to-finish including administration, research, and managing and growing a pipeline of small trusts. You will work with colleagues from across the charity to build high-quality proposals and develop reports for funders. You will also work directly with funders to understand their priorities and offer excellent stewardship.
About us
At Myeloma UK, we are making it possible to live longer and better lives with myeloma. Through research and treatments, we find new ways to a cure. As the only UK charity focused exclusively on myeloma and related conditions, we have transformed treatment and care over the past 25 years, helping quadruple life expectancy for many patients. But we need to go further, faster – because people with myeloma can’t wait. We are uniquely placed as an organisation to improve the lives of people affected by myeloma by investing in innovative, life-changing research, advocating for patients to get access to new treatments on the NHS, and providing free information and support services to patients and their families.
We are at a pivotal moment in our journey. Our new strategy, developed in collaboration with the myeloma community, alongside clinical, research, and policy leaders, focuses on three core areas: preventing myeloma, treating myeloma, and living well with myeloma. In the first year of this strategy, we have already made significant impacts: convening global leaders in early-stage myeloma to investigate prevention, securing the provision of three next-generation treatments on the NHS, and launching the Myeloma UK Survivorship grant to fund research into improving patients’ quality of life. But there is more work and achievement to come. Join us on our journey!
Our culture
This is a hybrid position, with travel to the Edinburgh office at least four times a month.
Wellbeing and staff engagement are at the heart of our culture. We offer our employees a range of benefits including a pension salary exchange scheme, flexitime, flexible working from home with hub-based office working, health plan, employee assistance plan, and holiday purchase scheme and we are committed to providing learning and development opportunities for all our employees.
The Next Steps Hub Manager will lead and manage a dedicated team supporting apprentices to achieve their personal development goals on their three-year programme.
About the Role: As a Next Steps Hub Manager, you will oversee the delivery of the Next Steps Programme in the hub, ensuring high-quality service delivery and the growth of the programme. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Managing and supervising a team of facilitators to support apprentices through their development plans.
* Assisting apprentices in completing awards and programmes such as Duke of Edinburgh, Grow and Learn, and John Muir.
* Ensuring the achievement of formal qualifications through recognised bodies (SQA, JASS).
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including parents, funders, and educational bodies.
* Overseeing financial records and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
* Managing staff development, supervision, and performance reviews.
* Encouraging apprentices to explore and develop social enterprises.
Please note that we are aiming to appoint quickly, due to the service opening in April 2025.
Motor Neuron Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing, terminal illness for which there is currently no cure nor effective treatment. Life expectancy post-diagnosis is, on average, just eighteen months.
MND Scotland’s vision is a world without MND. Until that day comes, we’re on a mission to ensure everyone affected by MND across the country has our support every step of the way. Our current three-year strategy builds on the achievements of the last forty years and also seeks to correctly position MND Scotland for a sustainable future to ensure we deliver our mission. We’d like your help to do that. Together, we can make time count.
We are recruiting up to 5 Trustees to join our Board. Whilst we’re always interested in receiving applications from a wide range of backgrounds, at this time we’re specifically inviting applications from individuals with the following skills and experience:
* Income Generation*
* Finance*
* Governance*
* Health & Social Care or Local Authority
* Early years candidates, regardless of discipline, looking to gain first Board experience
* we’re particularly interested in hearing from candidates with direct charity experience in these areas.
As a Trustee, you will play an important role in setting the strategic direction of the charity whilst providing support, guidance, and constructive challenge to the Executive team. You will also act as an ambassador for MND Scotland and help us ensure that everyone right across the country knows of the work we do and how we can help them if they need us.
Becoming one of our Trustees is not something to be undertaken lightly. It takes commitment, passion, and dedication. You may be pushed out of your comfort zone on occasion or indeed frequently. If that makes you uncomfortable, then you’re probably not who we are looking for. If however, you are looking to help make a real difference to people’s lives and to grow both personally and professionally, then we’d be really keen to hear from you, particularly if you have a background in any of the specified areas we are looking for.
Previous Board experience would be great but it’s not essential. You don’t have to have a personal link to MND. What is much more important is your passion, ability to think strategically, and your desire to get involved and make a difference. It’s also important that you know MND Scotland has a strong commitment to embracing diversity and inclusion.
* Hybrid/ Remote: Homebased or hybrid (Office in Linlithgow)
* Closing: 17th February 2025
About you
Are you an excellent listener? Are you good at organising online events for young people? Do you have experience of supporting young people, online or over the phone, who are facing challenges in their lives? If yes, then this role could be for you. Especially if you want to be part of an organisation that works together with children and young people and makes a big difference to families impacted by eczema.
About Eczema Outreach Support
Eczema Outreach Support (EOS) is a UK-wide charity supporting children and young people with eczema and their families. Originally set up in Scotland in 2011, we now have over 4,000 member families living across the UK.
At EOS, we want every child with eczema to thrive. By providing direct practical advice and emotional support to whole families, we empower young people to take back control of their health and break isolation. We want every child and young person with eczema to know that they are not alone.
We deliver a range of activities including one-to-one support via phone and email, face-to-face events and online activities, such as our virtual High Five Club for kids aged 3-10 and tailored support for teenagers. We also work directly with schools to offer workshops for children and Continuing Professional Development training for staff, as well as creating and sharing informative social media content on eczema. We support families on a wider scale by inputting into eczema research, taking part in clinical networks, and raising awareness of the impact of the condition on families’ lives.
We are a small team making a big impact and we can only achieve this by valuing and supporting our people to deliver great work. Recognising the individual strengths of our team and being a flexible and supportive employer are key to our success.
What we offer
* Flexible working. This role can be worked either as hybrid (if location allows) or full-time remotely. The role will require some hours to be worked online in the evening, as well as some being worked during office hours. We are always keen to accommodate our employees’ needs so hours can be spread in a way that works for you and the organisation.
* 28 days of annual leave (pro-rata) plus the 4 festive public holidays and additional time off between Christmas and New Year.
* We prioritise our team’s wellbeing very highly. We work on the basis that team members who feel valued and supported will deliver the best outcomes for our members. We will talk with you about what this means for you.
* We are committed to becoming an organisation that reflects society and promotes equity, diversity, and inclusion. We would particularly welcome applications from people who are currently under-represented on our team, including disabled people and those from Black, Asian, and other minority ethnic groups.
