Further Information:
A Personal Assistant is required for 8 hours a week (increasing to 10 hours a week during school holidays) to act as a companion and facilitator for a young 18 year old man who lives in the West Hull area. The 8 hours would be on a Sunday and Monday, but the hours and times for each day are negotiable.
The young man uses an electric wheelchair and is lively, chatty and has a good sense of humour. He likes photography, but needs to increase his social life and enjoys bowling, going to the cinema, and going out for something to eat.
Ideally, you will have some care experience and be willing to be trained in using and managing a gastrostomy (tube feeding). Training can also be arranged for first aid, moving & handling, and safeguarding.
Applicants should also have a strongly developed sense of social justice in supporting the social inclusion of disabled people in their local community. In addition, they should be honest, reliable, and good at communicating, tolerant, non-judgemental, and able to build good relationships based on trust and respect.
