What You'll Do Your position as Health and Safety Lead will be to ensure all VBTS Teams (Customer dedicated and project delivery) align and adhere to our Health and Safety Regulatory Requirements, customer contractual requirements and Vodafone policies and best practices across build / delivery and run functions. The Health and Safety Specialist is the primary health and safety support for a VBTS UK dedicated account(s). This is a key role, and the individual is the first point of contact for new business coming into the MES Team within Professional Services that will become dedicated accounts, the role is to provide competent advice in relation to all health and safety aspects with the aim of preventing harm to VBTS UK staff, subcontractors, client personnel and other third parties. The Health and Safety Specialist needs to understand the individual customer, contractual and regulatory requirements in relation to the different activities being undertaken across the dedicated teams and projects and provide customer support as required through contractual commitment. The H&S Specialist will work alongside the dedicated account and project teams to ensure they are operated in line with company procedures and legal minimum requirements, the majority of these are G Band managers hence why this role is also a G Band to have the same management level to influence and govern. This role will also provide advice on auditing / authorising 3rd party contractors for appropriate and safe delivery of accountabilities. The H&S Specialist will report to the Health and Safety Governance Manager and will be responsible for ensuring that the below activities are performed to the best of their abilities. This is not an exhaustive list and other responsibilities may be allocated by the Health and Safety Governance Manager to meet the business needs. Key Responsibilities: Supporting the Principal Designer and Contractor duties is a primary responsibility. This includes managing and reviewing the Customer Health and Safety Management Plan, as well as supporting the generation, compliance, and on-site auditing of RAMS. Ensuring compliance with H&S law, best practices, CDM requirements, and Vodafone and customer H&S policies is crucial. Delivering all HSE requirements for VBTS Contracts and Vodafone policies is also essential. Attending customer or Vodafone premises for H&S deliverables involves assisting in process and documentation development, maintaining records per company procedures and legal requirements, and reviewing and developing Health and Safety Plans for projects. Liaising with client/principal contractor H&S representatives and assisting with KPI implementation and H&S risk data analysis are key tasks. Issuing monthly safety awards per project KPIs and producing monthly H&S reports for accounts are also part of the role. Investigating HSE incidents with the Governance Manager and traveling to or being based in Scotland for the customer are necessary when required. Assessing and ensuring team HS&E competence, attending H&S meetings on site, and assessing subcontractors for dedicated accounts are important duties. Reviewing risk assessments and method statements, conducting site audits and inspections, and performing compliance audits of H&S management plans are essential for maintaining standards. Ensuring alerts and updates are regularly sent and recorded, building a positive H&S culture in the team, and assisting the Governance Manager with safety management, initiatives, procedures, and standards are vital. Developing Visual Standards is also part of the responsibilities. Who You Are A strong understanding of Health Safety and Environment Law, including the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations, is essential. Practical experience in delivering and monitoring Safety Management Systems, as well as generating and overseeing Safety Systems of Work, is crucial. Continuous self-development is important, ensuring up-to-date knowledge of new legislation and maintaining a working understanding of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Environment Agency (EA) regulations. This helps in fulfilling Vodafone’s statutory obligations regarding competent advice. Being self-driven and capable of working with minimal supervision is key, along with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members, suppliers, and customers. Effective written, verbal, and digital communication skills, coupled with sound diplomacy, are necessary to exchange complex information efficiently.
