Description The full-time starting salary is normally £34,226.00 per annum, with progression available in post to £37,203.00, per annum. Grade: SO1 3 Year Fixed Term, Part Time Role (0.7FTE) The Role: This role is central to the delivery of the BCU Sport strategy. Reporting to the Director of Sport and Physical Activity, you will develop the sport and physical activity infrastructure to increase the numbers of students engaged in recreational sport and physical activity, especially athletics and support physical and mental wellbeing through engagement with sport and physical activity. To liaise and work in partnership with athletics organisations on a local, regional and national level. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Lead on specific projects to develop opportunities for increased engagement in sport and physical activity Lead & oversee the BCU Sport and BCU Active coaches / instructors on a daily basis and ensure all activities are carried out to a high standard. Organise, lead and develop sports clubs in conjunction with student led committees. Aim to increase participation levels through the introduction of more diverse sport and physical activity timetables. Support the Director of Sport and Physical Activity in liaising with local sports organisations/authorities to build formal partnerships that will benefit both students and local communities. In conjunction with a range of departments within BCU and external partnerships deliver a range of recruitment events. Ensure that all activities are safe by working within the University Health and Safety guidelines. Continue to develop and offer student volunteering opportunities. Maximise the exposure of BCU Sport via a range of social media and communication methods. Develop various competitions that will ensure maximum participation by students, staff and members of the public. Provide termly statistical information to the Director of Sport and Physical Activity. To produce and support delivery of a 3-year operational plan that is focused on achieving a long-term legacy for athletics participation and performance in Birmingham. The plan will encompass the lead up to and the period following the 2026 European Athletics Track and Field Championship. To ensure that the strategic aims of key stakeholders involved with the Birmingham Athletics Networking & Partnership Group are embedded in the aims, objectives and operational plan. To link with key partners in the private and public sectors, at a strategic level, to promote the sport in Birmingham and to unlock new resources that will enable it to achieve its strategic goals for the sport. To work closely with colleagues at UK Athletics and England Athletics in order to maximize the legacy created from the development of the Alexander Stadium and European Athletics Track and Field Champs in 2026. Key Skills & Experience: Essential: Degree in a sport related discipline. Experience of developing and implementing sport and physical activity programmes. Extensive experience of working in a sport and physical activity environment ideally within an education setting. Proven ability to manage timelines. Ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, including clubs, NGBs, and community groups. Able to use social media and software that helps communicate to stakeholders both external and internal. Desirable: Experience of employing, supervising and managing part time sports coaching staff. Experience of developing external partnerships with local and regional sporting and physical activity agencies. What’s in it for you?
