Principal Data Analyst Lead impactful data projects that shape our Underwriting and Pricing strategies Bring technical expertise and business understanding to a collaborative, forward-thinking team This is a hybrid role with 80% homeworking and 20% from Stratford-upon-Avon About the roleWe’re on the lookout for a talented Principal Data Analyst to help shape the future of our Underwriting and Pricing Data Team at Head Office. If you’re someone who thrives on solving complex problems, loves turning data into meaningful insights, and enjoys supporting others to grow, this could be a fantastic next step for you. In this role, you’ll have real ownership – taking the lead on key data priorities and using your broad experience in data management to deliver projects that make a real impact. You’ll be the go-to technical expert, not just getting stuck into the detail yourself but also guiding, mentoring and developing junior analysts to reach their full potential. Day to day, you’ll design and build innovative data solutions that align with our policies and deliver real business value. Whether it’s engineering and transforming data, visualising it for key stakeholders, or ensuring we’re meeting regulatory standards, your work will play a vital role in our decision-making processes. You’ll also help us raise the bar – reviewing and improving data models, transformation routines and performance reports to make sure our data is accurate, accessible and well-governed. Always with an eye on what could be done better or more efficiently. And while technical know-how is important, so is collaboration. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Underwriting, Pricing and beyond – building strong relationships, advocating for best practice, and helping to deliver high-quality data solutions that support wider business goals. You’ll also be comfortable translating your findings into clear, actionable recommendations, making sure insights lead to positive outcomes. As our technical lead, you’ll balance project planning with hands-on delivery, making sure we meet timescales and deliver real value – all while championing improvements that benefit our customers, our team and the business as a whole.About youYou’re technically skilled, analytical and collaborative – someone who enjoys working with data and knows how to use it to drive real business impact. You’re just as comfortable getting into the technical detail as you are explaining your findings to stakeholders in a clear and engaging way. Communication is one of your strengths, and you build strong relationships across teams, helping to ensure data-led decisions are well-informed and understood. You’re organised and delivery-focused, able to manage multiple workstreams and adapt when priorities shift. You take ownership of your work and are always looking for opportunities to improve how things are done – whether that’s through automation, better data models or more efficient processes. And while you're confident working independently, you enjoy supporting others and sharing your knowledge. Insurance or financial services experience is a nice-to-have, but we’re open to candidates from all backgrounds with the right skills and mindset. You’ll bring: Advanced SQL expertise, with hands-on experience in building complex queries and working with large, relational data sets ETL development experience, ideally using SSIS or similar tools, to extract, transform and load data across systems End-to-end data delivery skills – from gathering business requirements and designing solutions, through to building pipelines, testing outputs, and ensuring successful implementation Strong communication and stakeholder engagement, including presenting technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences A collaborative, team-oriented approach, with experience supporting and mentoring others, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives At NFU Mutual, we support an inclusive workplace and value all the differences that make us unique.
