The Head of Music is responsible for leading and managing the music department at the secondary school. This role involves overseeing the curriculum, staff, and activities related to music education. Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development
* Design and develop a comprehensive music curriculum that aligns with educational standards and the school's goals.
* Ensure the curriculum reflects a broad spectrum of musical genres and styles.
Staff Management
* Recruit, hire, and evaluate music teachers and support staff.
* Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development opportunities for department members.
Student Engagement
* Create an environment that fosters student interest, participation, and enthusiasm for music.
* Organize and support extracurricular music activities and clubs.
Resource Management:
* Manage the music department budget, including resource allocation for instruments, sheet music, technology, and other needs.
* Oversee the maintenance and acquisition of musical instruments and equipment.
Collaboration:
* Collaborate with other school departments and administration to integrate music into the overall educational experience.
* Coordinate music-related events, such as concerts, recitals, and competitions.
Community Engagement:
Engage with parents, the local community, and potential donors to promote and support the music program.
Build partnerships with local music organisations and institutions.
Qualifications:
Bachelor s (BA) or master s degree in music education or a related field.
Teaching certification and relevant licenses.
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Proven experience in music education and curriculum development.
Strong leadership and management skills.
