Hardware Support Engineer Location: Dunbar, Scotland About the Role A Real-time Systems Hardware Engineer is required for the maintenance of online control and monitoring systems. The role involves controlling and assessing the impacts of changes to control system hardware. The successful candidate will ensure that all changes are controlled, fully defined, implemented, and verified within both operational and offline systems. Additionally, all permanent changes must be identified and consolidated into any future system software and database delivery and installation. Responsibilities Specify hardware modifications and associated work procedures. Plan and execute routine hardware maintenance, inspection, and test activities. Install and commission hardware modifications. Perform first-line hardware support activities, such as diagnosing faults in online equipment and replacing from spares stock. Maintain the offline test equipment. Ensure configuration control. Carry out offline hardware testing using offline test facilities. Interface with hardware repair agents to arrange repairs. Manage assets and maintain fault and repair data in a database. Support the justification of hardware replacements (e.g., item equivalency forms, Engineering Change Requests). Provide support for Site Acceptance Testing, Regression Testing, Confidence Testing, and qualification of new software builds. Liaise with internal customers regarding proposed software changes required for future software build and delivery. Required Experience Knowledge and understanding of analogue and digital electronics. Knowledge and understanding of serial and network communications. Experience in electronic equipment fault investigation, diagnosis, and rectification, including the use of schematics. Ability to generate hardware test documentation, including test plans, procedures, and reports. Experience in supervising and executing tests in accordance with test plans and procedures. Experience in designing cable harnesses and test boxes to support fault investigations and system testing. Required Skills Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with clients. Ability to work independently and remotely at customer sites. Required Education Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. HND/HNC (Higher National Diploma/Certificate) in a relevant engineering or technical discipline. Apprenticeship or Vocational Qualification in electronics, control systems, or IT hardware support, combined with significant hands-on experience.
