Our client is a leading design, engineering, environment and regulatory consultancy who are planning and designing sustainable communities and cities of the future. Due to securing further workload, their Leeds Head office is looking for a Principal Flood Risk Consultant to join their Flooding and Water Management Team. You will be joining a growing team of civil engineers, modellers, and hydrologists who undertake engineering and hydraulic modelling in areas of infrastructure, flood risk management, surface water management, SUDs, and integrated catchment studies.
Your role will be to lead the delivery of a wide variety of projects for several key clients both in the UK and Europe. The work will cover a range of activities including:
1. Project feasibility studies
2. Outline design
3. Hydraulic model build and verification
4. Hydrological assessments
5. Design support
6. Construction support
7. Asset management
8. Development impact assessments
Your role will play a significant part in the development of others in the team as you will be helping in managing and developing the clients' portfolio, taking an active role in growing the development sector for the Water Environment Department.
Working within agreed deliverables, key milestones, project methodology, quality assurance, and control strategy, you will lead project delivery tasks which may include engagement with clients' technical teams, calculations, drawings, sketches, and reports, as well as site investigations. Experience of managing projects and acting as technical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary projects is essential, as well as strong skills within flood estimation methods (e.g., ReFH 2 and WINFAP), undertaking environmental impact assessments, drainage and SUDs design, river engineering, and water resource assessment.
Taking a Project Manager role for selected projects, always demonstrating an awareness of project needs and taking personal responsibility to deliver these to agreed time, cost, and quality requirements, you will provide technical guidance, support, and training to colleagues, leading in the development of the drainage skills within the Water Environment Department. You will be working in close collaboration with and supporting colleagues from other disciplines as required, recommending and implementing improvements to technical policy, processes, and design solutions where applicable, and sharing via the knowledge management channels as appropriate.
Chartered with a professional body such as CIWEM and possessing an MSc/MEng and/or PhD with a focus on either hydrology, hydraulic, water resources, or other applied environmental science subject, you will have knowledge of the UK and European legislation governing the technical discipline, including planning policy and relevant design standards.
You will have an excellent technical understanding of UK hydrology and open channel hydraulics, as well as experience checking or approving assessments. Experience with GIS (e.g., ArcGIS) and hydraulic modelling software (Flood Modeller/TUFLOW) is essential, as your role will require mentoring team members less experienced in this field.
