We are looking for an enthusiastic, career-focused candidate to join our team as a Trainee Bridge Inspector.
The Trainee Bridge Inspector shall carry out inspections of bridges while under supervision from the Bridge Inspection Manager. Formal training and on-the-job training will be provided. The candidate will be given the opportunity to work towards professional qualification under the Lantra, Bridge Inspection Competency Scheme.
No experience is required; however, the ideal candidate will be good at working within a team, capable of report writing, and diligent. The ideal candidate should have an understanding of health and safety procedures and hold a current full UK driving license. Experience in working within civil engineering or working towards HNC in Civil Engineering or equivalent is desirable.
The South East Unit includes 870 bridges and structures, including the iconic Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge, as well as other major bridges such as the Kincardine Bridge and Clackmannanshire Bridge. Trunk roads in the South East serve as a vital link for Scotland’s economy, ensuring thousands of daily journeys and deliveries are carried out safely.
Role includes:
* Assist in the delivery of BEAR Scotland’s NMC SE Major Bridges Inspection Programmes and help deliver Major Bridges Inspection Teams key performance indicators (KPI’s).
* Under supervision, undertake a variety of Inspections: General Inspections, Principal Inspections, Close & Visual Inspections, Safety Inspections, Access Inspections, Monitoring Inspections, and Special Inspections.
* Inspections will involve working at height and in confined spaces.
* Report writing and production of detailed inspection reports and drawings/sketches.
* Work towards and gain Lantra Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme ‘BICS’ (NHSS31) Inspector qualification and then ‘BICS’ Senior Inspector qualification.
* Undertake appropriate training (Work at Height, Confined Space, First-Aid Training, Other).
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
* No specific qualifications are required; however, any experience in Civil Engineering or HNC in Civil Engineering is desirable.
