To service, with limited commission and install if competent, fire alarm and associated systems in line with the current regulations, liaising with the service department to ensure best practice and the most cost effective solution. To complete and return all company documentation and certification to comply with the company's systems and procedures. To work as a team with colleagues and the senior engineer to build on the company's reputation in quality and customer service.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Carry out scheduled routine servicing in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner in line with the Company's quality standards.
2. Carry out all other necessary works required at customer premises in accordance with the Company's quality standards.
3. Give prompt and efficient attention to emergency call outs received during working hours including outside of working hours if duty engineer.
4. Support the rota schedule as required to maintain a reliable and responsive out of hours service for customers.
5. Effectively communicate with customers to ensure a good understanding of system and site status, particularly system defects that affect its correct function.
6. Liaise with service administrators to ensure service commitments are met.
7. Plan own work, including routine service/maintenance visits, emergency call out requirements and remedial repairs and minor additions to existing installations in line with service administration guidance.
8. Ensure legible and timely completion of all company paperwork in line with Company requirements.
9. Be responsible for the management and security of own equipment stock in an efficient and economical manner by determining stock levels in relation to work activities and ordering stock items as and when appropriate.
10. Operate in accordance with the Company Handbook and all Company and customer's quality standards and health and safety requirements.
11. Pass on any potential leads for further business to the relevant Sales Engineer.
12. Discuss any suggestions for system/service improvement with the Senior Engineer.
13. Attend training sessions identified by the Company and identify and communicate to the Engineering Manager any personal training and development needs.

Accountable for:
1. Leaving customers with fully functioning fire detection and alarm systems, unless Engineering Manager/Customer has been informed of the reasons that completion is not possible, before leaving the premises.
2. All own documentation being completed and reaching the required destinations within agreed time limits.
3. Ensuring that customers are always satisfied with the service they receive.
Scope of Financial Authority
1. May purchase equipment or materials for site work up to a value of £500 if pre-authorised by the Engineering Manager.
2. May take orders for additional equipment or works as defined in the Engineering Price Guide.

Skills:
1. Able to work independently.
2. Able to plan, implement and complete service activities without assistance.
3. Able to identify all types of cable associated with fire detection and alarm systems, and to correctly test and terminate the cable ends in accordance with manufacturers' instructions.
4. Able to operate all required test equipment.
5. Demonstrates a logical approach to system fault diagnosis and rectification.
6. Understands different types of cable containment systems.
7. Deals with customers, end-users, construction personnel and in-house staff in a professional manner.
8. Verbal and written communication.
Technical knowledge:
1. Full and detailed understanding of BS5839 Pt:1 • Completed Units 1,4,5,6 and 8 of BFPSA Training.
2. Understands the basic building service systems, e.g. air conditioning systems, with a view to interfacing with them.
3. Has a comprehensive understanding of the causes and cures of fire alarm problems, including an ability to recommend changes to practices and processes that may cause false alarms as well as changes to the fire detection and alarm system.
4. Basic Electrical Safety training (ECA).
5. Manufacturers training with a minimum requirement of Notifier and Gent equipment in respect of servicing.
6. Manufacturers Training in all other equipment as required. This may include VESDA, Radio, Fire Suppression and will be decided by the Engineering manager based on regional needs. Note: Specific product training will be arranged within the first 6 months of employment if necessary to meet the minimum parameters.
Standards:
1. BS5839 Pt1.
2. BS7671 (if involved in installation work).
3. BS6266 where required.
4. To operate business processes within the framework of BN EN ISO 9001:2000 and LPS1014.
Documentation:
1. Able to read prepared plans and technical sketches, service and repair systems in accordance with information provided, and record changes to and the location of equipment on the installation drawings and the O & M manual.
2. Identifies and reports the requirement for new and additional works to the Senior Engineer.
3. Accurately completes appropriate paperwork in line with Company requirements.
4. Calculates the incidence of false alarms and prepares advice for the customer on the implications of these incidents.
Health and Safety:
1. Has completed and fully complies with the necessary H & S training - Understanding Safety.
2. Fully understands and complies with the Company's health and safety procedures, and has signed a copy of the Trinity Engineering Health and safety blueprint.
