Assistant Quantity Surveyor
About the Role:
Our client is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team in London. As an Assistant QS, you will work closely with senior Quantity Surveyors and the project management team to ensure the efficient delivery of projects, maintaining quality and cost control throughout the construction process. This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in the construction and cost management sectors, looking to develop their skills and gain experience in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the preparation and review of cost estimates and budgets for projects.
* Prepare tender documentation, assess tender returns, and provide recommendations.
* Assist in managing costs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that projects are delivered within budget.
* Conduct site visits to monitor progress and ensure compliance with the budget and specifications.
* Assist in the preparation of interim valuations and final accounts.
* Prepare and maintain accurate records of project costs, variations, and procurement processes.
* Assist in the assessment of contractor performance and the quality of work.
* Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure effective communication and project delivery.
* Support senior Quantity Surveyors in managing and mitigating project risks and challenges.
Key Requirements:
* A degree or relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field (or working towards).
* Strong analytical and numerical skills with attention to detail.
* Ability to work well within a team and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
* A good understanding of construction processes and cost management principles.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and knowledge of QS-specific software is a plus.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
* Enthusiasm to learn and develop within the Quantity Surveying field.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills:
* Previous internship or work experience in a Quantity Surveying role or the construction industry is beneficial but not required.
* Membership with a professional body such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or working towards it is a plus.
