Learning Mentor – Academic and Behaviour Support Role
Location: Tameside
Pay: £89 - £100 per day
Contract: Full-time, term-time only
Start Date: ASAP or September 2025
About the Role:
We are seeking a driven and enthusiastic Learning Mentor to work in a secondary school setting, providing targeted academic and emotional support to students who are underachieving or at risk of disengaging. You’ll work alongside subject teachers, SEN staff and the inclusion team to deliver meaningful 1:1 support and small group interventions.
This role is ideal for someone looking to gain in-school experience prior to teacher training, youth work, or counselling qualifications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support a caseload of pupils with identified academic, social or emotional barriers to learning
* Deliver mentoring programmes around confidence, motivation, revision skills or behaviour
* Assist students with homework, organisation and goal-setting
* Work closely with SENCO to monitor pupil progress and adapt support accordingly
* Provide classroom support during lessons where necessary
* Help run breakfast clubs, lunchtime support sessions and after-school enrichment
* Maintain regular contact with parents, carers and outside agencies where relevant
Ideal Background:
* Previous experience supporting young people in school, college, or community settings
* Strong academic background with GCSEs or A-Levels in English, Maths and Science (minimum)
* Empathetic and student-centred approach
* Excellent literacy and communication skills
* A desire to pursue a career in education, youth support or school counselling

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
