As an Underwriter II, you will be responsible mainly for developing our Brown and Green Water Hull book, as well as the other segments of the portfolio, whilst delivering a profitable ‘Underwriting’ service to your clients. Your key tasks include:
1. Underwriting business within the agreed business plan and individual authority.
2. Supporting the business planning and forecasting process.
3. Monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits.
4. Monitoring premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
5. Maintaining awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
6. Ensuring adequate reinsurance acquired to cover specific risks.
7. Building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients.
8. Supporting the design and structure of risks.
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
What will your essential responsibilities include?
1. Reviewing submissions including applications, policy wording, inspection reports, loss runs, and financial reports while conducting appropriate research to determine degree of risk for each account.
2. Calculating appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the sector, reinsurance cessions as well as the Underwriting and general administration costs while ensuring profitability.
3. Proactively advising, assisting, servicing and following up with clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure satisfaction and fulfillment of their insurance requirements.
4. Effective relationship management to initiate opportunities for cross-selling offered products and ensuring account retention.
5. Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients and identify and establish new distribution relationships, with a focus in the Brown and Green water segments.
6. Promote the company’s expertise by participating in industry conferences and events while regularly conducting and taking leadership roles in client and broker meetings to educate on risk.
7. Controlling timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to quality standards.
8. In coordination with other internal teams, determining appropriate reinsurance for risk placements both on excess of loss and quota share basis.
9. Reviewing loss control reports and managing policy endorsement requests to process any necessary changes to the policy.
10. Support the business planning and forecasting process; monitor financial exposure within outlined limits; monitor premium income to ensure it remains within set limits.
11. Maintain awareness of all claims advised while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
12. Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants, and management team.
You will report to the Underwriting Manager – Marine Hull & War
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
1. Under technical direction, works within significant limits and authority on assignments of higher technical complexity and coordination.
2. Possesses demonstrated technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry (Marine Hull, with a focus in the Brown and Green water segments), reflective of successful progression through various job family levels.
3. Advanced analytical, negotiation and sales/marketing skills.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
5. Interpersonal Savvy - Demonstrated ability to build and maintain outstanding insured and broker contacts.
6. Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning.
7. Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution.
