The Paediatric Allergy and Asthma Specialist nurse team here at Northumbria has some exiting changes ahead of it. We are looking to expand and develop our current nursing workforce within the service, and this means the appointment of a Band 6 Allergy Specialist Nurse to join our team.
The post holder will be expected to deliver specialist nursing care to a defined caseload of patients diagnosed with asthma and allergies. This will include taking responsibility for a specialist group of patients with complex clinical and social needs supported by the band 7 Asthma and Allergy Nurse lead and Paediatric Consultants.
Where this role will be predominantly developing, improving and leading on Paediatric Allergy Services here at Northumbria, the post holder will be expected to have some understanding and insight into the asthma side of the service. At times they will be required to support with the asthma workload and provide cross cover in the absence of the Band 6 Asthma Nurse.
The Post holder will assist the development of pathways and treatment plans for children with allergy and asthma.
They will co-ordinate transition services for young people including liaising with the adult services in order to establish transitional clinics.
They will provide education and training for patients and their families/carers as well as other healthcare professionals such as school and acute paediatric nurses who are looking after children with allergies, asthma and viral induced wheeze.
The post holder will have professional responsibility for a caseload of child within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHCFT) Care may be delivered both in the acute environment and within the community setting.
The post holder will have knowledge and specialist training within managing allergies and asthma in Paediatric Patients, ensuring the highest standard of personalised nursing care is delivered to patients and their families in partnership with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
To have responsibility for the supervision and assessment of care needs relating to paediatric allergies and asthma and the delivery and maintenance of optimal care outcomes and will provide professional and clinical care advice to patients, carers and the multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder is expected to motivate staff to provide high standards of care by acting as a role model for others.
