Are you passionate and dedicated about improving cancer and end of life care? An exciting and new opportunity has arisen for the role of Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Assistant Therapist within a newly created Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) AHP team at HDFT.
This is a fixed term /secondment project post until 31/3/26 from start of appointment to develop and deliver a high-quality haemato-oncology and palliative care specialist Therapy service to patients under the care of HDFT in community and outpatient settings.
The post holder will work alongside the band 7 specialist Occupational Therapist (OT) who will lead the project, a band 6 OT and band 6 Physiotherapist (Physio) and Dietician within a multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
The Therapy Assistant will work under the indirect supervision of the Registered Therapists within the HOPe team. The role involves delivering therapy interventions to patients in their own homes and outpatient clinics to:
* facilitate optimal level of function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions
* facilitate optimal level of function to enable consideration of anticancer treatment
* facilitate preferred place of care
* help to maximise quality of life and address individual needs.
The post holder will be expected to work towards and align with the Trust's strategy and values. They will demonstrate leadership qualities and be committed to developing the HOPe service alongside colleagues. The post holder will work as part of a team committed to delivering high standards of patient centred intervention by:
* Carrying a variable clinical caseload as part of the HOPe team
* Using practical/technical/creative skills to provide a flexible, patient-centred programme of rehabilitative activities for individuals in their own homes
* Assisting with the planning, preparation and implementation of education programmes for patients with complex symptoms including breathlessness, anxiety/panic and fatigue
* Undertaking assessment, treatment and evaluation of complex patients as delegated by the therapist and giving appropriate feedback
Access to a car and clean driving license are essential.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent or agreement to undertake.
* Minimum of 2 years clinical experience.
* Understanding of the therapy needs of the patient group.
* Experience of working in relevant areas e.g oncology, palliative care.
* Other relevant training.
