We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual into a busy working environment.
The aim of the role is to clean, sterilise and pack instruments for use in operating theatres and ensure sets are in full working order.
Responsibilities include:
1. Delivering equipment and stock to wards and departments, ensuring that all dirty equipment is returned to the SSD department for processing.
2. Assisting in the checking and processing of equipment and the wrapping of equipment ready for return to the wards/department.
3. Transporting equipment across sites as necessary to ensure a seamless service.
4. Following correct procedures when in the wash room, ensuring safe use of the washer disinfectors and use of all safety equipment provided to prevent contamination of people or equipment.
5. Cleaning theatre and ward instruments either using the automatic washer disinfectors or by hand in extreme cases.
6. Providing clinical technical services to patients/clients.
7. Inspecting equipment when packing or reassembling to ensure cleaning standards are met.
8. Checking for cleanliness and packing trays and instruments that have been through the automatic washer disinfectors.
9. Safely using the autoclave sterilisers to ensure all equipment meets standards and is correctly batch stamped for traceability.
10. Ensuring maintenance of all instruments which come through the department, including any relevant assembly and dismantling, and sending broken instruments for repair.
11. Using hand and eye coordination to check, pack and assemble equipment quickly and accurately.
12. Dealing with bodily fluids and contaminants on dirty instruments on a day-to-day basis.
13. Collecting dirty trays from wards, theatres, the post room, and clinics, which may require pushing heavy trolleys and occasional exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances.
This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 - Development of Professional Roles. Upon completion of an agreed set of competencies, you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.
