Job summary The purpose of this role is to support the Lower GI cancer service in implementing early diagnostic pathways for patients with suspected cancer. This role has been specially designed to support the Straight To Test pathway and will require the post holder to evolve to support the pathway as it continues to refine over time. This role will also cover Colorectal Remote Monitoring Surveillance, working closely with the CNS and patients to ensure that patients with an existing colorectal cancer diagnosis have surveillance tests appropriately. You will be responsible for the quality check of GI referrals ensuring that all relevant information is present before the clinical triage takes place. You will liaise with the GP practices and any other services to ensure that all relevant information is collated. You will be required to work across a range of IT systems to coordinate the booking of patient appointments. The post holder will work both directly with nursing and admin staff and with patients and their carers to assist in coordinating the care of patients through their hospital care journey, providing the patient with the relevant information and coordinate any test preparations that need to be sent or collected by the patient. This is both for patients with suspected and confirmed colorectal cancer. Main duties of the job The post will require the coordination of appropriate services to maximise the delivery of the streamlined diagnostic pathways, thereby improving the quality and experience for patients and their careers, and diagnosing cancer earlier. It is expected that the post holder can work autonomously, using their own initiative and within a specialised team. The post holder is expected to be a highly experienced within the hospital administrative setting with knowledge and evidence of specialised terminology, educated to a level required to perform the role or equivalent experience. This is an evolving pathway and therefore will be subject to addition and amendment.
