Job Vacancy: Sport Coach for Challenging Behaviour (Team Teach Trained)
Location: BA2, Bath
Salary: £83.40 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Full-time
We are looking for a full-time TA/LSA for a specialist primary school in North Bristol that caters for pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. We provide education for children who often struggle to build and maintain healthy relationships due to these challenges. Many of our students display severe challenging behaviours, including issues related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, oppositional defiance, and even conduct problems such as aggression.
About the Role:
We are looking for a TA who is emotionally robust, resilient, and able to handle difficult and disruptive behaviour. You will support children both in the classroom and during more practical, creative activities like art and play therapy, helping them to engage with their learning while also addressing their emotional and social development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-on-one and small group support to children with SEMH needs
2. Implement individual learning and behaviour plans in collaboration with teachers and therapists
3. Help de-escalate challenging situations and create a calm, supportive environment
4. Build trusting relationships with students who may be withdrawn or display opposition
5. Assist with both mainstream and practical learning activities tailored to individual needs
What We’re Looking For:
1. Strong emotional resilience and a proactive attitude
2. Ability to manage challenging behaviour effectively and calmly
3. Open to feedback and guidance with a willingness to listen and learn from experienced colleagues
4. Previous experience with children who have SEMH or SEN needs is an advantage but not essential
5. TEAM TEACH Trained is highly desirable
Please Note: This role can be highly rewarding, but it is also demanding. Many of our pupils have been excluded from mainstream schools due to severe behavioural issues and their day-to-day reactions can be unpredictable. If you are not prepared to deal with these challenging situations, this role may not be suitable for you.
Why Us?
1. Work in a dedicated team passionate about making a real difference
2. The children are our priority, we recognise that each child has different needs which encourages our child-centred approach to learning and development
3. Ongoing professional development and training in trauma-informed care
4. A supportive environment that values your resilience and commitment
