Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) Day Services. An exciting development opportunity has arisen within the SACT unit, at The Christie at Macclesfield for a permanent band 5 (30 hours). We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, registered nurse with a passion for caring for oncology patients to join our dedicated team in the brand-new Christie at Macclesfield.
Main Duties of the Job
On appointment, you would receive a comprehensive supernumerary training package, in which you have exposure to different anti-cancer treatments in different disease group fields and complete the UKONs SACT passport. You will gain experience in treating a variety of patients with potentially curative diseases, alongside palliative and clinical trial treatments. During your supernumerary period, you will spend time at the main Christie hospital Oak Road Treatment Centre. We are an innovative and forward-thinking unit dedicated to reviewing and developing the ways that we work for our patients' needs. Job Responsibilities
1. Provide a supportive role within the SACT unit at the Christie at Macclesfield for nursing, medical, and clerical staff.
2. Undertake the nursing care of patients, ensuring privacy & dignity is maintained whilst being aware of physical and psychological needs.
3. Give a clear and accurate update at change of duties and ensure accurate documentation of nursing interventions.
4. Participate in the rehabilitation of patients and give any necessary instructions, including discharge information.
5. Participate in nursing procedures appropriate to the department.
6. Support and assist in the induction/training of junior staff/Health Care Assistants acting as mentor to designated staff.
7. Welcome patients to the unit and its routine.
8. Act as ward coordinator and ensure the safe and timely management of patients.
9. Liaise with medical and non-medical personnel and community organisations.
10. Rotate to ground floor clinic management where required to support in outpatients.
11. Highlight areas of improvement/development within the department and undertake relevant projects.
12. Act as support for other nurses in relation to SACT and oncology care.
13. Safely deliver SACT to Christie patients attending the unit.
14. Assist in the provision of meals/refreshments for patients whilst meeting their nutritional needs.
15. Assist in the general housekeeping duties of the unit.
16. Help to maintain a safe environment and report faults/risks to the nurse in charge.
17. Liaise with nurse responsible for stores/stationery and ordering and assist in the maintenance of stock levels.
18. Handle patients' personal possessions, ensuring cash and valuables are kept securely.
19. Correct care and custody of controlled drugs and aid the safe storage of medicines and the return of any unused chemotherapy to pharmacy.
20. Assist medical staff with procedures.
21. Demonstrate the agreed set of values and be accountable for own attitude and behaviour.
Educational Development
1. The staff nurse is responsible for their own personal development and maintaining a personal development plan.
2. Complete the Ward introductory pack and preceptor pack.
3. Complete Clinical Skills Training and the UKONs SACT passport.
4. Annually attend all mandatory study days including Resuscitation, AIMs, moving & handling, and fire safety.
5. Complete level 3 SACT administration programme to administer cytotoxic drugs and educate patients regarding their treatment.
6. Work towards band 6 equivalent competency pack.

3. Maintain confidentiality with regard to patient information both at work and outside of working hours.
