The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of sexual reproductive healthcare to patients accessing the sexual health service. The post holder will be expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team offering holistic, non-judgemental sexual health care demonstrating professional and ethical responsibilities and to build and maintain good working functional relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities include:
1. Management of pathology results and ensuring that patients are provided with information, advice, treatment, and support when diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection.
2. Supervision and mentoring of junior staff and nursing students, and taking an active role in the leadership and management of the nursing team.
3. Undertaking nurse-led clinical sessions, including history taking and physical examinations of patients, within agreed departmental clinical guidelines and within own clinical competence.
4. Carrying out partner notification, ensuring the attendance and treatment of contacts as detailed in the Society of Sexual Health Advisers (SSHA) Partner Notification policy.
5. Dealing with telephone and personal enquiries from both the public and other health professionals concerning sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and AIDS.
6. Issuing and/or administering medication/vaccinations to patients attending the Sexual Health Service adhering legally to Patient Group Directions (PGDs) when authorized by lead clinician.
7. Teaching patients, where appropriate, to administer their own treatment as necessary.
8. Participating in clinical supervision and service appraisal scheme.
9. Keeping up to date with developments in nursing practice and sexual health through personal development plans, training, and education.
10. Participating in the clinical governance program of the Sexual Health Service, ensuring accurate records are maintained, participating in relevant research and audit, and improving the quality of nursing practice.
11. Contributing to the general nursing service and being flexible and willing to work in a variety of clinical settings within the service across East Berkshire as required.
