About Us:
Westminster City Council, acting as the lead borough for the Inner West London Coroner’s consortium, is seeking a dedicated and proactive Coroner’s Court Manager Assistant.
This role supports the delivery of a high-quality coronial service to the diverse communities of Inner West London, encompassing the City of Westminster, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the London Borough of Merton, and the London Borough of Wandsworth.
The Role:
As the Coroner’s Court Manager Assistant, you will be instrumental in supporting the Coroner’s Court Manager in various legal, administrative, and operational tasks. You will play a crucial role in handling death referrals, assisting with inquests, and liaising with stakeholders, ensuring the efficient operation of the Coroner’s Service.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with court operations, legal, IT, financial, and administrative duties related to death investigations.
Support the timely and effective handling of death referrals, investigations, and inquests.
Manage complex and sensitive cases alongside the Coroner’s Court Manager.
Liaise with hospitals and mortuaries to ensure timely post-mortem procedures and capacity management.
Assist in preparing and submitting returns to the Chief Coroner or Lord Chancellor.
Prepare case papers, summarise important facts, liaise with solicitors and witnesses, and attend hearings.
Maintain and oversee IT systems, serving as a super user for the case management system.
Help manage service contracts and administrative tasks including correspondence and data entry.
Assist in the management of the court diary, jury inquests, and provide support during hearings.
Offer guidance and updates to bereaved families and facilitate post-inquest processes.
Requirements:
Knowledge of the Coronial system and related laws.
Strong communication skills for interacting with bereaved families and stakeholders.
Proficiency in IT systems, data management, and Windows-based applications.
Excellent record-keeping and multitasking abilities.
Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork capability.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and adapt to changing deadlines.
Capability to travel between sites at short notice.
