Job Purpose
In this pivotal role, the Director of Membership Engagement & Communication will support the CEO in raising the profile of the Association, working closely with the CEO, the National Office team and engaging with key stakeholders such as the Association’s membership, its volunteer network, the bereaved, the public, Government and other regulatory bodies. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance member engagement, retention, and satisfaction. It will oversee all communication efforts, ensuring clear, consistent, and effective messaging to our members and stakeholders. The role will be supported by the Marketing & Design Manager and will work across departments with other NAFD team members.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
Strategy
1. To ensure your work streams are always in line with the NAFD’s Strategy.
2. To work alongside the CEO, Senior Team and the Association’s Boards/Committees to agree growth key performance indicators (KPIs) across all work streams.
3. To be a presence and commitment to delivering the Association’s mission, values, and strategic direction across the United Kingdom.
4. Regularly review and report on performance versus KPIs and against set budgets.
5. To support the CEO in raising the profile of the Association.
6. Develop and support the Marketing & Design Manager by setting clear objectives and providing guidance and support to achieve strategic goals.
Membership Recruitment and Retention
1. Identify membership recruitment and retention opportunities or threats within the sector, identifying new revenue generation streams as well as maintaining an overview of best practice and innovation in member services.
2. Ensure analysis of membership profiles and trends are available and that ‘intelligence’ on member attitude and views about the NAFD and/or sector changes are regularly obtained, analysed and fed into the membership engagement and communications strategy/workplans.
3. Ensure that high-quality, tailored member services and communications are delivered to all parts of the membership, including management of and engagement with our Local and Area volunteers/members as part of our core service.
4. Attend Area Federations/Local Association meetings to engage with members and highlight the work of the Association such as education initiatives, events, membership benefits, etc.
Marketing
1. In collaboration with the Marketing & Design Manager, create innovative and forward-thinking services to members using technology and marketing communication platforms and social media tools to provide effectiveness and efficiency.
2. Alongside the Marketing & Design Manager, develop standards and procedures to ensure that high-quality, regular, and valued marketing communications are delivered to members and other stakeholders to include the public, media, and others across the Association’s print, digital, and social media channels to drive engagement with the NAFD throughout the funeral profession.
Communications and Publications
1. To design and deliver a membership engagement and communications strategy.
2. Collaborate with a contracted PR Agency on the development of a strategic external relations that will assist the Association with key elements such as the enhancement of public awareness of the NAFD, fostering campaign engagement, and the management of the Association’s crises comms.
3. Represent and uphold the integrity and reputation of the NAFD brand to key external membership and communication stakeholders, suppliers, and contacts, maintaining excellent working relationships and influencing decision-making for the benefit of the Association, its membership, and the funeral profession.
4. To highlight and assist in the writing of features for our award winning magazine, FDM in collaboration with its Lead Editor.
5. To assist the FDM’s Lead Editor in ensuring each edition contains accurate and relevant content.
6. To agree with the FDM’s Lead Editor and Marketing & Design Manager the ‘Features’ for each edition together with content of our NAFD’s Media & Sales Information Pack.
7. Responsible for the ongoing engagement with external stakeholders, including our Kindred Associations, to collaborate on a sector-wide publication.
8. To assist, when needed, in the development of any other publications, such as guidance documents, leaflets, etc.
9. To build and maintain relationships with key sector stakeholders to source relevant and insightful content for our award winning magazine, FDM.
10. Assisting the Senior Team in report writing for the General Meeting reports, and our Annual Review.
Events
1. Attend all Association events, such as its Annual Conference, and the biennial National Funeral Exhibition as and when required.
Other
Perform other duties as assigned by CEO to support the Membership and National Office.

Pay: £60,000.00 per year
