We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Minor Illness Nurse to provide high-quality clinical care for patients with a wide range of minor illnesses, ensuring they receive appropriate advice, treatment, and support.
This role will involve working between 24 and 37.5 hours per week depending on candidate preferences.
Main duties of the job
Your primary care will be in assessing and treating patients presenting with minor illness symptoms.
The Minor Illness Nurse works independently but is well supported by GPs, Nurse Practitioners and other health care professionals to deliver excellent patient care and promote patient wellbeing.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will:
1. Assess and manage patients with minor illnesses at the surgery and in local care homes providing effective treatment and advice.
2. Provide health education and advice to patients, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care.
3. Advise and prescribe (if qualified to do so) on evidence-based treatment for minor illness conditions.
4. Make any necessary referrals to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary and with clinical support from the supervising GP.
5. Work autonomously and as part of a team to deliver patient care in line with best practice guidelines and clinical protocols.
6. Support the practice team with chronic disease management, wound care, spirometry, health promotion, vaccination and screening activities.
7. Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with all relevant healthcare regulation.
8. Participate in continuous professional development and keep up to date with changes in clinical practice.

Skills
* Strong clinical assessment and diagnostics skills with expertise in managing minor illnesses.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to educate patients and advise appropriately.
* Ability to work autonomously while also collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
* Strong organisational and time management skills with a focus on efficiency and patient care.
* Experience of wound care management.
* Experience of undertaking cervical screening.
* Experience of performing and interpreting spirometry.
Experience
* A minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience with significant experience in primary care, urgent care or minor illness management.
* Clinical systems trained (EMIS).
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse RN with a valid NMC Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration.
* Additional qualifications in Minor Illness Management such as Minor Illness and Injury diploma are highly desirable.
* Qualifications in Chronic Disease Management and Spirometry Assessment/Interpretation.
