The Service
The aim of Swansea Drug and Alcohol Service is to engage people who use drugs or alcohol, and or their concerned others, in the treatment system and support them when accessing it. This includes early intervention, engaging and assessing service users, needle exchange, brief interventions, outreach, training, case management, health promotion and harm reduction initiatives and recovery and aftercare services.
Barod services are provided in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory, and professional manner and in a way that demonstrates courtesy and respect for individuals using substances, and sensitivity to their unique personal situations and experiences.
Role Purpose
The team leader will lead in the delivery of the adult and family substance use services. You will support the Service Manager with the day-to-day operations of the service and general co-ordination of service components and activity.
* Contribute to the recruitment, induction and development of new staff
* Support and provide supervision and appraisal for the substance use engagement workers to enable them to undertake their responsibilities in respect of service delivery / performance and quality issues
* Meet regularly with the Service Manager for briefing and participation in supervision.
* Ensure that staff are given opportunities to learn and develop in their role.
* Manage annual leave for the team and manage absences including sickness absence.
* Encourage and support supervisees to reflect on and develop their practice
* Provide support and guidance about practice issues to engagement workers.
Service Delivery
* Oversee the development, delivery of and evaluation of the early intervention and low intensity treatment strands across Western Bay (Swansea and Neath Port Talbot).
* Oversee the development, delivery of and evaluation of the substance use service across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
* Manage and co-ordinate referrals to the First Point of Contact (FPOC) and the substance use team working in partnership with a range of local agencies and organisations to offer a holistic approach in collaboration with domestic abuse specialist services across Western Bay.
* Co-ordinate a duty rota for the First Point of Contact system.
* Co-ordinate operational duty rotas such as Drop-in and needle exchange etc.
* Ensure the delivery of training in the use of agreed targeted screening tools with Tier 1 and 2 agencies.
* Support and encourage staff to deliver Blood Borne Virus assessment screening and BBV testing for people who use our services.
* Signpost people who are affected by drug and alcohol use to appropriate wraparound services to meet individualised need.
* Involve families and carers in the treatment of people where appropriate.
* Foster and sustain good working relationships with communities, services, statutory and strategic partners and stakeholders.
* Champion and promote Service User Involvement at every opportunity.
* Work in an innovative and creative way to ensure continuous development and improvement of the service.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the service.
* Ensure the delivery of time limited and brief interventions that are evidence-based and age appropriate to those assessed as requiring support, including those in receipt of Tier 3 services.
* Collaboration with Tier 3 services, to support individuals who have been assessed as requiring a detoxification or opiate substitute therapy.
* Oversee the delivery of a range of harm reduction interventions, including needle syringe program.
* Ensure that those at risk of BBV infection are encouraged to present for testing.
* Ensure that all opiate users are provided with Take Home Naloxone (THN) or Nyxoid and receive the associated training.
* Provide consultation and advice to staff who deliver services and interventions across Tiers 1 to 2.
* Chair and participate in necessary meetings.
* Retain and maintain all information (paper and electronic) in line with service level agreed guidelines and statutory protocols, such as GDPR.
Qualifications and training
* Line Management Training or Qualification to ILM 3 or equivalent
* Full, current driving licence and use of a vehicle which is insured for business use.
* Degree in a Health and Social Care or Management related topic (or equivalent)

* Excellent IT skills: competency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel, Powerpoint, Canva and Internet Explorer.

* Experience of a trauma-informed approach.
