We have 2 opportunities to join the Automation Community working in our Business Process Management (BPM) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) teams.
Job description
The Automation team provides automated solutions to support business processes. We work across the ONS and have numerous applications which aid the work of statistics gathering and processing. One of our key areas is supporting the organisation of business surveys but our team also works in the areas of personnel recruitment and data management. Our aim is to help the business by identifying areas where automation could assist business processes, provide automated solutions and then support the business in using and maintaining those solutions.�
These roles are responsible for designing, testing, running and continuously improving automation technologies in the area of Business Process Management (BPM) and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). Working as part of a wider automation team in the area of Business Process Automation, the successful candidate will ensure that automation configuration is efficient, effective and supported and, as part of the automation development lifecycle, promote the reuse of automation components.�
Each role has the following language requirements:
Role 1 in the Cloud and Automation area: IBM BAW, Javascript, SQL, PowerPlatform
Role 2 in the Digital Innovation area: IBM RPA, Microsoft Power Automate, Python, SQL
Responsibilities include:�
1. Designing, configuring and delivering automation applications to serve a variety of business process and user needs
2. Working in a DevOps environment, enhance existing automation applications to meet evolving business process and user needs
3. Being a practitioner in the use of automation technologies and tools, evaluating and adopting those appropriate for the use case being considered
4. Developing systems of record, services and supporting APIs as required to support the implementation of automation business applications
5. Managing automation tools and test environments, central code / configuration, maintaining development standards and configuring software to automate human activities and other systems
6. Sharing knowledge of tools and techniques; identifying and sharing good practices and collaborating to improve the capability of the team and wider organisation
7. Supporting users with access issues and dealing with requests and incidents which are reported to our support desk

Essential Skills Criteria
Information Security
8. You understand information security and work with other developers to design solutions and services with security controls embedded.
9. You can use existing tooling or patterns to meet information security requirements
Service Support
10. You can identify, locate, and fix faults.
11. You can build relationships with end users.
User Focus
12. You can identify and engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence. You can identify and define research that fits user needs. You know how to use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user focus into outcomes.
13. You can work alongside other developers to identify ways of improving the user experience using End User and Product Owner feedback (, refine UX and UI design choices, or improve end user interactions)
Programming & Build (automation)
14. You know how to collaborate with others when necessary to review specifications and then use these agreed specifications to design, configure, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium to high complexity, using the right standards and tools.
