Job Title: Software Engineer (Environment Simulator)
Salary: depending on experience
Location: Bristol, Stevenage or Bolton (we may be able to offer a relocation package for this role)
Dynamic (hybrid) working: typically 5 days per week on-site, due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the Personnel Security Team.
The opportunity: A great opportunity to work as a Software Engineer in a multi-disciplined, dynamic, focused and agile department of around 50 engineers specialising in all aspects of Test Solution design, including hardware, software and embedded real-time systems! Be part of a team that is starting an exciting phase of transforming the way we develop and deliver Environment Simulator software, putting our engineers at the heart of this redefining whilst developing software that facilitates testing across the whole of the product portfolio.
Responsibilities:
1. Designing, developing and supporting Engineering based Environment Simulator software solutions to test world leading complex missile systems and sub-components.
2. Working with a wide range of teams and collaborators to deliver Test Engineering software capability of products from early concept to production.
3. Working in a Software Engineering office/lab environment engaging with test equipment and electronic circuitry.
What we're looking for from you:
1. Previous software engineering experience.
2. Validated experience of languages such as C, C++, C#, etc.
3. Experience or the willingness to learn and be able to develop in Ada and associated scripting languages.
4. Experience of working within an Agile development environment.
5. A strong understanding of what is required to build high quality software and the ability to support quality practices.
6. A good understanding of automation, continuous integration (CI/CD) and DevOps principles and practices.
7. Understanding of communications and serial interfaces such as TFTP, Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, Modbus, CAN and 1553 buses.
8. Ability to articulate the benefits of key software craftsmanship practices like unit testing and good design.
9. Experience of Test Driven Development within a software engineering context and comfortable with practices like pair programming and lightweight design modelling.
