Main duties of the job
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Participate in the monitoring of standards of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
2. Participate in direct care needs of patients, providing expert knowledge of all clinical specialities and acting as a role model.
3. Participate in audit and monitoring accurate documentation in accordance with Trust policy, NMC and HPC guidelines.
4. Be competent in facilitating an emergency service covering all specialties provided within the department, during elective and non-elective periods.
5. Ensure the safe administration of drugs in accordance with Trust Policy, and NMC and HPC guidelines.
6. Ensure that all procedures and techniques are carried out in accordance with local competencies and agreed policies and standards.
7. Ensure rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
8. Act as patients advocate in all matters relating to his/her care, treatment and welfare.
9. Check on departmental cleanliness and where necessary assist other members of the team in the preparation, clearing and cleaning of the operating suite and equipment before, during and after operating.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community-based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
1. To provide patient care within the perioperative environment and act as a skilled member of the multidisciplinary team.
2. To assess care needs, develop programmes of care and implement and evaluate these programmes of care, carrying out all relevant forms of peri-operative patient care without direct supervision over a 24 hour period, caring for both adult and paediatric patients undergoing routine and emergency surgery.
3. The post carries a regular commitment to rotational night duty and out-of-hours work, however this is not a requirement for individuals starting on a training programme.

Experience
* Existing experience as a scrub practitioner.
* Scrub or Anaesthetic Recovery experience.
