Payroll Administrator (Maternity Cover)
Based: Ongar, Essex
Hours: 35 hours per week (Full time)
Salary: £26,000 – £30,000
Contract: Fixed term 12-months
PSS are currently seeking to appoint a Payroll Administrator at their Head Office in Ongar, Essex. PSS are looking for a
committed, passionate, customer focused individual who is intent on a career working in payroll and human resources.
The position has been introduced to assist the Head of the Payroll/HR Department and five colleagues with a fast paced and heavy
day to day administration for managing the payroll and HR for c.1250 staff across the UK.
This role will be the backbone to the department and to succeed in the role it needs someone who is hungry to learn, can apply
themselves consistently, works well at times of pressure and is passionate about good accurate processing and record keeping.
The role requires good attention to detail as you will be responsible for setting up and screening new starters and processing
leavers while ensuring all the compliance requirements are met. In addition, you will need a good level of maths as you will be
asked to do calculations for tax, NI, SSP, SMP, and other related payroll activities.
Key skills, experience and attributes:
* Experience of confidential employee and payroll record keeping and filing of correspondence.
* Screening and vetting procedures to BS7898 standards is an advantage
* Good knowledge in payroll calculations, e.g. Tax, NI, SSP, SMP.
* Data entering on payroll weeks, i.e. worksheets, timesheets
* Processing leavers and producing P45s.
* Responsible for ensuring all reports, timesheets are filed accurately on weekly basis.
* General office administration duties, filing of correspondence etc.; recording and despatching all outgoing mail; recording all
incoming mail; answering telephone and passing on messages
* Basic Understanding/ knowledge of UK employment and Health & Safety, HR legislation
PSS are looking for a team player, who can also work independently, with an ability to quickly understand how using IT will
improve and develop payroll and HR systems.
