Specification & Compliance Technologist
Pullins Bakery is a fourth-generation family business, producing high quality ambient and frozen bakery products from three production sites. The business has received multiple awards and recognition for its products, which it sells through five retail shops, as well as national accounts.
About the Specification & Compliance Technologist Role
Reporting to the Technical & HSE Manager, the purpose of your role will be to support in maintaining company policies and procedures in line with the relevant industry standards & customer requirements.
This is a hybrid role bridging Technical and NPD.
Key tasks
• Ensuring the allergen matrix for finished goods is updated & shared as required
• Maintaining the raw material register of approved ingredients
• Ensuring internal & customer databases are maintained and updated as required
• Maintenance of internal & external specifications post-launch, with additional support on Existing Product Development. Supporting the NPD team with QAS documents.
• Transferring specification data into specific customer formats using various customer specification systems / portals as required
• Completing information requests, and maintaining relevant databases/ spreadsheets.
• Leading QA/QC checks on incoming physical raw materials
• Working closely with the production teams to ensure all quality and food safety systems are understood and being followed and checking compliance on operational team paperwork and providing feedback to the teams.
• Archiving and filing production records
• Assist with pack copy / legislative checks for packaging, labels and product specifications
• Assisting with the microbiological, finished product and environmental sampling schedules, for raw materials and finished product, including compiling and dispatching micro samples & logging results. Assist with routine cleaning validation testing / swabs and rapid allergen swabbing.
• Assisting the TA with the completion of the Internal Auditing checklists and compliance checks at production sites and shops. (FSI/GMP, GHBP, Personal Hygiene). You will be a core member of the IA team.
• Support with developing and maintaining the QMS, including the implementation of accreditation bodies.
• Assisting with traceability / recall exercises against the site schedule, including provenance and mass balance as required.
• Supporting the roll out of new policies & procedures
• Additional tasks / ad-hoc projects to support the wider business as requested by the Technical & HSE manger, NPD tech and peer group.
• Supporting with external audits and customer visits
About You
• Great organisational, time management and communication skills.
• Ability to think on your feet and problem solve.
• Relevant experience in a Q.A / technical role.
• Analytical skills with a good eye for detail.
• Confidence to liaise with people at all levels and the ability to communicate concisely and effectively with both suppliers and customers using both oral and written skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a warm welcoming manner.
• Self-motivated with an ability to work under pressure and use initiative.
• Proficient IT skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook etc.
Desirable
• The applicant should have experience in food industry and preferably have experience with BRC / SALSA.
• Understanding of HACCP, ideally trained to level 2.
• Food Safety Qualification.
• Internal Auditing Qualification
More Details
The Specification and Compliance Technologist role is based at our Kenn Moor Bakery, BS21 6TZ.
The working hours are Monday to Friday, typically 8am – 4pm, though start and finish time is flexible.
Part time – preferably 4 days – also considered.
