Job Title: Assistant Director, Recreation and Wellness Services - Competitive Sports and Outdoor Facilities Physical Location: Kent Campus - Kent, OH Salary: $45,599 - $50,000 Basic Function: To assist in directing the daily operations of the department; to manage an assigned recreational program or function (e.g., fitness, wellness, outdoor adventure, aquatics, community programs, facilities management and operations, etc.). Reports to Associate Director, Recreation and Wellness Services or designated supervisor. Additional Basic Function – if applicable: None. Examples of Duties: Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Assist Associate Director in coordinating the daily operations of the department; participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures. Direct an assigned recreational program or function (e.g., fitness, wellness, outdoor adventure, aquatics, community programs, membership services, marketing, facilities management and operations, etc.). Plan, monitor, and maintain program budget; prepare and maintain program reports and records. Oversee maintenance of recreational facilities for areas of responsibility. Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services; ensure delivery of quality customer service. Review programs and services to ensure safety and risk management practices are followed and make recommendations for enhancements. Hire, train, and supervise program and operations staff. May supervise pro shop or concessions operations. Perform related duties as assigned. Employees hired for Competitive Sports and Outdoor Facilities may be responsible for the following duties: Provide leadership and oversight of Intramural Sports programs, Youth Camps, and Community programs. Provide leadership and support to the Club Sports program. Assist in the oversight of Outdoor Facilities, including equipment, operations, rentals, scheduling and concessions operations. Supervise area-specific student staff and full-time Recreation Program Coordinator, Competitive Sports and Youth Camps position. Additional Examples of Duties – if applicable: None. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Sport Administration, Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a relevant field; three years experience in recreational services or a relevant field which has included at least one year in a supervisory or lead capacity License/Certification: Specific licensures/certifications may be required for specific positions. Knowledge Of: Desktop office computing applications Budgeting procedures Best practices in recreation Risk and safety practices relative to recreation services Skill In: Written, verbal and interpersonal communication Handling difficult situations involving conflict to patrons Interpreting and applying policies in a consistent manner Managing multiple projects with a strict deadline The evaluation of programs/services and make recommendations Developing programs/services which are safe, inclusive and diverse Ability To: Manage people and projects' Work independently and as part of team Mentor, train and instruct student employees Work with diverse populations in an effective manner Apply state and federal regulations applicable to the department (Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, etc.) Preferred Qualifications – if applicable: Master's degree in Sport Administration, Recreation Administration, Physical Education, or a relevant field. Detail oriented, highly organized and the ability to deal with a variety of situations and people in a balanced way.
