Reporting to the Head of ER Partnering, the post holder will manage the Employee Relations Advisory and Case Investigations Team to ensure the provision of a cohesive, standardised service that delivers consistently high standards of advice, investigations, outcomes, and support to the managers and staff within the Trust. They will work in close collaboration with the wider People team to ensure delivery of professional and high-quality ER and investigation services to Trust Divisions and departments.
The post holder will develop and lead the Employee Relations advisory and investigations service, building up the reputation of the Trust as an employer of choice through adherence to best practice principles and ensuring ER partnering, practices and service delivery are standardised throughout the organisation.
The Deputy Head of ER will also provide assurance to the Head of ER Partnering and Health Unit teams on the quality of the services provided through improved key performance indicators and the provision of robust reporting and auditing.
As a senior member of the HR team, the post holder will support the development and delivery of the Trust’s People Strategy and policies to ensure that ER services are fully integrated to the needs of the Trust.
Main duties of the job
You will support the effective delivery of a high-quality and professional ER service, developing, training, and leading a specialist team in providing focused challenge, advice, and guidance to managers in the Trust and ensure effective implementation of, and compliance with, all ER policies, procedures, practices, and standards - and that the team consistently oversees all stages of employee relations processes, including advising and supporting managers with complex disciplinary matters, appeal panels, and attendance at Employment Tribunals as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The ideal candidate will also hold a degree and be fully CIPD qualified or have equivalent industry experience. You will have the ability to interpret complex information and formulate policies, utilise workforce analytics to optimise decisions and have proven experience of leading and developing a team. You should also have the ability to travel when required, as you will be covering different sites.

* Employee relations experience in a complex, multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse organisation
* Experience of managing a team and setting performance standards and targets.
* Experience of generating, presenting, and delivering complex data/reports.
* Experience and knowledge of NHS Terms and Conditions of Service including Agenda for Change.
* Experience of operating effectively in a customer-facing environment
* Up-to-date knowledge of employment legislation and understanding of the risks of non-compliance
* Experience of advising managers on highly complex and serious individual and/or collective conflict situations including disciplinary, capability, and grievance issues
* Knowledge and experience of using HR systems
* Experience of Employment Tribunals including organisational representation
* Experience of developing, monitoring, and delivering against KPI’s and service standards
* Experience of delivering cost savings programmes.
* Well-developed understanding and awareness of best-practice employee relations methodologies
* Experience of working in a multi-unionised environment
* Experience of Medical and dental terms and conditions of service and MHPS case management
Education & professional Qualifications
* Educated to degree level or equivalent
