Resuscitation Officer (Development Opportunity) - 37.5 Hours per week
The Resuscitation Department at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full-time (1 WTE) Resuscitation Officer. The successful applicant will be a UK registered nurse or suitably qualified allied healthcare professional with recent experience of working in an acute care environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced clinician to develop further knowledge, skills, and experience in teaching and resuscitation practice.
Applicants will be considered for a development opportunity from Band 5 to Band 6 subject to experience and achievement of pre-requisite competencies.
Main Duties of the Job
The successful applicant will hold a Resuscitation Council UK provider certificate in at least one of the following courses: Immediate Life Support (ILS), Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (EPALS), or Newborn Life Support (NLS). Evidence of clinical teaching is desirable.
They should be motivated and enthusiastic, have excellent communication skills, and be able to engage with all levels of staff, patients, carers, and visitors.
Job Responsibilities
* Assist in the planning, development, delivery, evaluation, and recording of all training provided by the Resuscitation Services Team and assess levels of competence during and following teaching.
* Help with income generation by providing training, where appropriate, for external customers.
* Deliver training and offer support to relatives and carers of at-risk patients.
* Provide professional advice and support in relation to any aspect of resuscitation training, practice, and procedures.
* Be an active member of the Trust's Resuscitation Committee.
* Participate in quality improvement projects relating to acute illness management and the deteriorating patient.
* Collect and collate data for Trust-wide and national audits relating to resuscitation.
* Attend adult, paediatric, and newborn medical emergency calls.
* Provide appropriate advice and support during and after resuscitation to staff and/or witnesses involved.
* Assist in developing Trust policies and competencies in all relevant resuscitation procedures.
* Ensure a high standard of professional practice is maintained and maintain clinical competencies by completing continuing professional development (CPD) hours in an acute clinical area.
Person Specification
* UK Registered Nurse (Part 1) or UK Registered Allied Healthcare Professional.
* RC (UK) advanced or intermediate level resuscitation course provider certificate (i.e. ILS, PILS, ALS, EPALS, NLS).
* Post registration certificate in teaching & assessing.
Experience
* Significant and recent experience of working in a relevant acute clinical area.
* Evidence of competency in relevant clinical skills.
* Experience of clinical teaching.
* Experience in teaching resuscitation / medical simulation.
* Experience of change management.
* Experience of clinical audit.
Knowledge
* Ability to work independently.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
* A good standard of written and spoken English is required to be able to undertake the relevant duties.
* The ability to prepare and deliver presentations to a group of people.
* The ability to lead a clinical team under pressure.
* Experience of debriefing.
* The ability to write clear and concise reports.
