Ground and Gardens Maintenance Operative
Position Type: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: Agenda for Change Band 2: £23,615 per annum
The Ground and Gardens Maintenance Operative role involves the day-to-day maintenance of the grounds and gardens across the Isle of Wight NHS Trust estate. Please see the 'Main Duties of the Job' section for a list of responsibilities.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder's main duties and responsibilities include:
* Undertaking unsupervised general grounds and gardening duties including grass cutting, hedge cutting, border maintenance, weed control, and sweeping.
* Being competent in the use of machinery and tools necessary for the above tasks, e.g., tractors/mowers, dumpers.
* Maintaining competency through appropriate training/qualifications for safe application of pesticides for effective weed control.
* Cleaning, safety checking, and reporting defects of tools and machinery.
* Carrying out minor adjustments to machines, e.g., replacing strimmer cords, changing tractor wheels, and sharpening blades.
* Applying wood preservative/protective coatings to garden furniture during bad weather.
* Keeping the site clean and free from debris, including emptying bins and removing rubbish.
* Demonstrating basic knowledge and practices of health and safety applicable to all duties, including securing garden store and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience
* Hold a valid driving licence to drive a 4-wheel car or van with a manual gear change.
* Experience using tractors and lawn mowing equipment.
* Previous work experience or training in skills development that includes the use of tools and equipment.
* Experience of working in an Acute Hospital Environment.
