About The Role
Reporting initially to the Group People Director, this role has been created to help review, embed and maintain a safety management system within our New Ventures operations. Our new ventures operations consist of three separate and distinctly different manufacturing businesses all operating form the same business park.
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional that can work independently but equally as part of a wider cross functional team. The role will include a focus on delivery against internal and external audit actions, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of colleagues, contractors and visitors to site is maintained at all times and advising and supporting our colleagues to operate at all times within our safety policy and procedures.
This is a 5 days a week site-based role in Q-Park, Woodchester, near Stroud. There may be some occasional home working permitted.
Core Responsibilities
* Working closely with all managers and business leaders to ensure compliance with the group policies and practices
* Develop, implement, and review health and safety strategies, policies, and management practices for each business and also in relation to communal areas (working closely with Group Estates Manager and Group Places Manager)
* Develop, implement and review safety and environment procedures, including but not limited to; risk assessments, method statements, COSHH assessments, internal audits, and induction training for new colleagues and contractors on site
* Responsible for accident investigation and root cause resolution action planning
* Develop, implement and regularly test emergency response plans
* Ensure all statutory obligations around service and maintenance of plant and equipment are carried out in a timely manner
* Provide correct and understandable interpretation of Health and Safety legislation to managers and business leaders including codes of practice and industry best practice supporting pragmatic decision making
* Proactively identify where Health and Safety management practices can be improved and assist the organisation in implementing solutions to facilitate improved Health and Safety performance
* Effectively work in collaboration with Managers and contribute to business plans to ensure Health and Safety objectives are embedded within those plans
* Prepare Health and Safety reports and statistical information and when necessary present reports at Committee Meetings or other forums as required
* Promote a positive approach to Health and Safety to all employees as well as others who may be affected by the company activities ensuring that health and safety is part of how we work every day
* Develop and deliver toolbox talks as necessary
* Develop, implement and assist in delivery of our in-house health and safety training programme
* Keeping auditable written records of all inspections and actions taken
* Be an active member of the New Ventures, Health, Safety and Environment committee
About You
Essential Skill Set and Personal Characteristics Required
* NEBOSH or Tech IOSH equivalent
* Proven track record of delivering and maintaining Health and Safety Management Systems
* Experience with COSHH, manual handling, lifting operations and hot works safety
* Experience working in a manufacturing environment
* Experience in accident investigation
* A good level of computer literacy in excel, word and Other MS Office packages (or equivalent)
* Strong communication skills and diplomacy particularly verbal communication and at all levels
* Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines without compromising safety or quality
* Ability to work independently with remote management and take responsibility for project delivery
* Ability to independently plan, prioritise and organise workload effectively
* Confident outlook being comfortable to challenge behaviour that falls outside of safety standards and practices
Desirable Skill Set
* Advanced education and training level 3 or equivalent experience of delivering health and safety training
* COSHH assessor training
* Legionella awareness
* Manual handling training
* Frist Aid at Work
* Experience of DSEAR regulations and ATEX zones
* Full UK Driving License
