Overview of role
Location: Cardiff
A rare exciting opportunity has arisen for a Logistics Manager role at our Cardiff Depot. This is a key member of the site and regional senior management team, to lead a busy and diverse depot site you will safely lead and motivate the depot team. Responsible for daily depot operations; despatch, direct delivery, administration, inter Bakery, third party and depot based vehicle.
Key Accountabilities
1. Engages in a Safety-First culture by improving and maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring all team members are aware and complying with Health and Safety, Wellbeing and Environmental standards, legal and company requirements.
2. Effective leadership, development and motivation of the depot team to ensure high levels of performance, customer satisfaction and delivering “Best Practice” depot operation.
3. Set clear goals, targets and expectations of performance for all despatch operatives, drivers and administrators on your shifts to ensure all relevant KPI’s are met in line with the business plan.
4. To be an active member of the regional management team, fully participating in activities as required.
5. Working with the regional and national logistics team/wider AMB group to implement and support national initiatives and projects.
6. Ensure optimal labour utilisation, by making best use of the company Warehouse Management Systems and labour flexibility.
7. Leading negotiations with site bargaining units, implementing any actions arising.
8. Working closely with the VMU manager for maximum fleet availability (HGV/FLT) and legal compliance.
9. Build and develop effective relationships with the main site teams to ensure cross functional working and across the wider AMB business to ensure best practice is shared and the optimal performance of the depot.
10. Recruit, train and develop Operatives, Drivers and Administrators who reflect the Company’s standards.
11. Execute continuous improvement action plans (e.g. PDP initiatives, productivity improvements, employee feedback survey etc.) to ensure that CI targets are achieved.
12. Ensure that any service issues arising are addressed promptly and where appropriate, escalated.
The Right Person
1. Leads by example with the ‘Safety First’ message and is able to demonstrate a strong standard of Health and Food Safety record with a good awareness of environmental factors.
2. Experience in a leadership operations or logistics role in a commercially challenging environment with strong leadership skills, confident, open and honest style of communicating.
3. Holder of CPC qualification National level including a Full UK drivers license is required.
4. A strong customer focus, always willing to go the extra mile to deliver a good service.
5. A lateral thinker with good critical reasoning skills capable of identifying opportunities for improvement and delivering pragmatic solutions with high commercial acumen.
6. A self-starter with the energy and determination to set the standards and drive quality, performance and change.
7. PC literate including a working ability with Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint and Word; capable of using Warehouse Management Systems.
8. Highly numerate with the ability to analyse and communicate clear, concise information.
9. Preferably previous experience in a FMCG transport company with budgetary experience and preferably educated to degree or equivalent standard.
