An opportunity has become available for an Assistant Team Leader to join the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (HSDU).
Ability to work effectively in a team environment is essential. Flexibility is key to ensure the department operating hours are covered appropriately, and the ability to take part in the out of hours on-call rota is essential.
This post is a 37.5-hour per week flexible working contract and involves shift working over 7 days, including weekends.
Main duties of the job
You will work alongside and lead a team of HSDU Technicians to ensure duties are carried out in accordance with departmental policies and procedures whilst ensuring compliance with statutory legislation. You will coordinate the workload whilst prioritising and delegating to team members ensuring decontaminated surgical equipment is available to our customers.
Job responsibilities
1. Assist the Team Leaders in the day-to-day running of the Decontamination Department and team, ensuring that policies and procedures are followed and quality standards met.
2. Ensure that all clinical procedures within the James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and other customers are supported with sterilised and disinfected equipment delivered effectively, efficiently and economically.
3. Develop effective working relationships with departmental colleagues and internal stakeholders.
4. Assist the on-duty Team Leader in planning day-to-day production of the Decontamination Department, including direction and supervision of Decontamination Technicians.
5. Support the Team Leader by ensuring that all staff carry out their duties in accordance with the department's ISO 13485:2016 Quality Policies and Procedures.
6. Monitor and investigate complaints and concerns, ensuring faults are rectified.
7. Facilitate training of new Technicians in the completion of the decontamination training program.
8. Undertake mandatory tests of the Washer Disinfectors and Autoclaves as required.
9. Ensure staff maintain work areas in a tidy state and comply with Trust Health & Safety and Fire Policies.
10. Record information from instruments as required by the Decontamination Department quality system.
11. Undertake all duties as described in Decontamination Technicians job description and any other reasonable duty as requested.
12. Understand and interrogate the tracking and traceability system.
13. Liaise with Team Leaders to provide constant supervisory cover.
14. Maintain a good working relationship with operating theatre staff and other Trust staff.
15. Ensure equipment in the department is used correctly and working efficiently.
16. Support the management team to ensure an efficient service is provided to our customers.
17. Assist the management team in ensuring work is organized.
18. Record and submit clinical incident information when events happen.
19. Address customer complaints professionally.

34. Accurately record all necessary information for reprocessing of medical devices.
35. Ensure the Trust's Health and Safety Policies are understood and observed.
36. Report incidents occurring within the department.

Person Specification
Skills
* Good team worker with attention to detail.
* Experience within Decontamination or Sterile Services.
Experience
* Technician or other healthcare activity experience.
* Experience working in a service environment.
* Previous supervision and training of new or junior staff.
Education and Qualifications
* Four GCSEs grade D or above including maths and English or equivalent.
* Willingness to undertake the IDSc training scheme.
