The Adult and Specialist Rehabilitation Division of BCHC is looking to recruit a Trainee Rehabilitation Engineer (Clinical Technologist ). The successful applicant will undertake the IPEM Clinical Technologist Training Scheme with the intention of meeting the requirements of the Register of Clinical Technologists or the Academy of Healthcare Science Register.
The position we are recruiting to is that of a Trainee Rehabilitation Engineer to based across Worcestershire and Herefordshire Wheelchair Services. You will already have suitable qualifications such as a mechanical or medical engineering degree or alternative qualifications with relevent experience to be eligible to join the IPEM Clinical Technologist Training Scheme
We require a trainee Rehabilitation Engineer (healthcare science practitioner / clinical tecnologist) to undergo a formal training programme to become a qualified member of our Rehabilitation Engineering team to support our future staff needs
The position is patient facing and very hands on with respect to using hand tools to adjust and fit equipment. You will be required you to build a portfolio of evidence throughout the 2 year scheme which together with observed practice will be assessed by IPEM Moderators.
The Rehabilitation Engineer Service is based in Selly Oak, Birmingham however the training placement is primarily based at Worcestershire and Herefordshire Wheelchair Services currently based at Crown Lane, Wychbold, WR9 0BX and Ruckhall Lane, Belmont, Hereford HR2 9RP respectively. However, some placements and learning opportunities will be based at other locations, generally within the West Midlands. The aim of this post being to grow the clinical capacity at these Wheelchair Services
Upon successful completion of the Training Scheme you wil be eligible to join the Register for Clinical Technologists allowing you to apply for qualified Rehabilitaiton Engineer positions within our service.
As part of of a Rehabilitation Engineering Team of over 25 staff you will participate in an active CPD and Clinical Supervision programme.

Complete an approved training plan identified in the Rehabilitation Engineer Training scheme,to enable registration with the Register for Clinical Technologists / Health Professions Council as a Clinical Technologist (Rehabilitation Engineer).
Clinical work experience may take place at hospitals clinics, schools, other institutions and on domiciliary visits. This is a patient facing role
Use of tools to carry out the adjustment of mechanical and electrical equipment
Use IT equipment to write reports, use email. Specialist use of IT equipment required using a computer aided drawing system, a stability assessment system and pressure measuring equipment and wheelchair programming tools.
