Hammersmith United Charities seeks
Voluntary Chair of Trustees (Reasonable expenses paid)
Time Commitment 1-2 days per month
Meetings: A mix of in-person ( Hammersmith) and remote
For over 400 years, Hammersmith United Charities (HUC) has supported the vibrant and diverse community of Hammersmith, constantly evolving to meet the needs of local people. This dynamic area boasts a rich tapestry of cultural assets, thriving global businesses, and renowned academic institutions. However, severe inequality casts a shadow over this success, with pockets of extreme deprivation and housing costs out of the reach of many. Hammersmith United Charities' work is currently more important than ever. The voluntary sector is facing an unprecedented surge in demand coupled with a decline in funding. To create a fairer Hammersmith for all, the Charity needs effective leadership.
They’re seeking a Chair of the Board who can steer the organisation’s strategic direction and help deliver lasting impact. As Chair, you’ll provide direction and oversight to the Board, promoting an inclusive culture and encouraging all Trustees to contribute to decision-making. You will drive the development of the HUC’s long-term strategy, ensuring it remains focused on community needs.
Your responsibilities will also include overseeing the evaluation of performance and impact, using resident and community feedback to shape priorities, and ensuring the Board and Committees support the CEO and staff team. Moreover, you will represent HUC publicly, helping build partnerships in support of charitable objectives. HUC are hoping to hear from visible and approachable leaders, adept at building relationships with both residents and strategic stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record:
* Leading organisations of a comparable scale and complexity, alongside nonprofit experience.
* They will be skilled at collaborating within a Board environment, providing financial oversight and ensuring long-term sustainability.
* The Chair will possess an active network of potential partners and be knowledgeable about the challenges facing Hammermith’s community.
* Above all, they will be committed to tackling inequality and supporting those in need through housing, grant-making and community action.
