Are you now, or will you soon be, a Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) looking for the right place to start your social work career in Children’s Services? If so, then we want to hear from you and offer you the opportunity to become the Social Worker you want to be.
Completing your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) within our Social Work Academy will ensure that you get the right support to develop your skills, knowledge and professional confidence further, and will give you a strong base for your career.
As a NQSW completing your ASYE with Durham County Council you will be based in a social work team, where you will have the opportunity to undertake meaningful social work with the support of your Team Manager, Social Work Consultant, Enhanced Practitioner and team members.
We would love you to be brave, curious, have a flexible approach, nurturing, a wonderful communicator and decisive, looking to start your Social Work Career in an amazing Authority. Alongside this, you will have a dedicated Practice Lead who will support you throughout your ASYE, providing regular reflective supervision, peer support from other NQSWs and meaningful development opportunities. You will have opportunities to network with other NQSWs and ongoing support to produce your portfolio in line with the requirements of Skills for Care.
Your Practice Lead will work alongside your Team Manager and Enhanced Practitioner to ensure that your caseload is protected, and that you have protected time for development and learning.
From the start of your ASYE you will have a permanent contract. As the 7th largest local authority in England, and the largest in the North East we offer excellent opportunities for career progression. Our development pathway shows how we will support you to meet your career goals. We have a clear professional development offer (reviewed annually) which includes a wide range of learning and development opportunities, and we make a commitment to you of 5 days a year to spend undertaking continuing professional development (CPD).
Like all our Social Workers, you will benefit from a senior leadership team that listens and cares about you and your work. You will be supported by a well-resourced social work academy who will support you in your ASYE year and continue this support as you progress into your 2nd year of practice and prepare for progression, whether you want to broaden your experience as a social worker, practice educator or step into management.
We offer a culture of high expectations, high challenge, and high support, a culture which takes pride in and actively celebrates social work and promotes relationship and strengths-based practice.
