The post holder will coordinate the major trauma patient pathway from ED through to discharge and oversee the development and implementation of standards and protocols to underpin this.
This involves working with multidisciplinary teams across all divisions in the Trust and with colleagues in network trauma units to ensure the best possible care of patients (both adults and children) who have sustained multiple injuries.
This will be achieved by:
1. Working within the Major Trauma Practitioner team and alongside wider members of the Major Trauma Team as an experienced nurse practitioner delivering an expert nursing service along the Major Trauma Pathway.
2. Effectively and autonomously managing a caseload of patients/clients.
3. Ensuring that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
4. Contributing to the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
5. Establishing clear lines of communication within the Major Trauma team to ensure cohesive multidisciplinary management of patients.
6. Participating in telephone follow up calls and the Major Trauma MDT Clinic.
The post holder will need strong leadership skills and the ability to act as a senior professional role model at all times.

Job responsibilities
* To assist in the delivery of advanced, specialist nursing care for patients admitted via the Major Trauma Pathway.
* To provide expert specialist major trauma nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following admission and through all stages of the patient pathway within the MTC and SWL& S network.
* Perform advanced clinical skills (such as the ordering of clinical imaging and independent patient assessment) as necessary.
To ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing both physical and mental health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care.

* NMC Registered Nurse (general) with evidence of further professional development.
* Bachelor's Degree
* Minimum of 3 years band 6 experience
* Minimum 5 years experience post registration
* Previous Major trauma patient care experience
* Acute/critical care experience
* Evidence of working autonomously/independently

* Masters level study.
